" HEATING-OVEN.
Specification of Iietters Patent.
Patented Sept. 29, 1914.
Application filed May 14, 1914. Serial No. 838,549.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN H. MAURER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Ovens, of which the following is a speci-' vide a device in which the joints are formed in such a way as to eliminate the use of S01". der or any similar material. v
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,-
Figure l is a front view in elevation of a heating oven constructed in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan viewof Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view .taken on line 44 of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view showing the method of sup-' porting the grid, and Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the end construction. Referring now to the drawings, by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates the main body portion of the device, which is constructed of a single sheet of metal and is bent to form a rectangular casing. A suitable slit 2 is cut in the froiit wall of the cas ing and communicates at its terminals with the slits 3 as illustratedijl in Fig. 1. The metal between the slits 2and 3 is bent inwardly as at 4: to form the shelf 5, which is supported by means of the angle brackets 6 which are riveted or otherwise secured to the front wall and to the shelf. An enlarged aperture 7 is formed in the back wall of the casing and is arranged to be closed by a suitable cover plate which will be more fully hereinafter described. Formed centrally of the top of the rectangular casing is the aperture 8 in which the grid designated generally by the numeral 9, rests. This grid 9 preferably comprises the ring 10, having thereto.
formed integral therewith a plurality of arms 11, the outer ends of which are bent beyond the outer periphery of the ring as at 12 to formsupports for the grid when the device is in use.
Secured to the backwa-ll of the casing 1 are the guide plates 13, having the bentback portion 14: which terminates at its free end in the portion 15, which is ar ranged to form a guide for the cover plate 16, hereinbefore mentioned. plate 16 is provided at its upper edge with the extension 17 which is arranged to form a handle by means of which the plate may be removed when so desired. A pair of end members 18 having the angular extensions 19 at their free edges are provided, and each of the extensions is bent back upon itself as at 20 to form the slots 21, in which the edges of the rectangular casing 1,isheld. A suitable rivet or other securing means 22, is extended through the angular extension and bent-back portion, and is arranged to rigidly hold the end member 18 in place. Extending longitudinally through the box thus formed is the rod 23 having at each end the threaded portion 241, with which the nuts 25 are arranged to cooperate. This rod'23 is arranged to form a longitudinal reinforcement for the box and also to form a support for the tools when the same are resting on the shelf 5 hereinbefore described.
Secured centrally of the lateral extremities and extending longitudinally through the box is a suitable supply pipe 26 having at one end the stop cock 27, by means of which the flow of gas into the pipe is controlled. Se-
cured centrally ofthe pipe 26 is. the T-connection 28 having the pipe 29 connected This pipe 29 carries at its free terminal the gas burner 30 in which the ordinary tip 31 is held. Thus it will be seen that when the stop cook 27 is opened the gas will flow into the pipe 26 and through the tip 31 where it is ignited and the flame will come centrally of the grid 9 hereinbefore described.
A suitable liquid container 32 is provided and has communicating therewith at spaced intervals the burners 33 in which the wicks 34 are held. These wicks 34 extend into the chamber as clearly shown at Fig. 4, and are arranged to absorb the liquid contained therein.
It will be evident from the foregoing that in use, the glue pot is stood upon the grid 9, and the gas burner ignited thus causing the glue Within the glue pot to become heated. When it is desired to heat any tools or similar devices, the Wicks 34 are ignited after the chamber 82 is filled With alcoholor similar liquid, so that the tools may be laid 7 upon the shelfand will be further supported by the rod 23 directly over the alcohol flame. Since this flame creates a white light, it Will be apparent that the "tools thus heated Will not become smoked and may be used Without ina'ny way injuring the article.
With the use of this inventionit will become apparent that it is not necessary to have a separate heating device for "thetools andfor the glue pot and also that the heat --generated from the tool heating burnerwill materially assist in the heating of the glue pot and consequently considerable saving of fuel will be efiected.
l/Vhile in the foregoing there has been shown and described'the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combinationand arrangement of parts as will fall Within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined'in the appended claim.
to end, said bar-cooperating withthe shelf in holding tools which'are' to be heated, a gas burnercentrally of'the casing and extending into cl'ose proximi'tywith the grid, 'and a pair'of spaced alcohol lilllIPSWlllhlll the casing to form tool heaters, whereby when tools are laid on the shelf and the supporting bar they will be in direct alinement with the flame from thealcohol lamps and become heated.
"In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
