To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I FREDERICK W. Cor.- LIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Strainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 10

This invention relates to sieves or strainers, but more particularly to such as are provided with a handle and has for its object to produce a structure which is more simple and eflicient than any device of a similar nature heretofore constructed.

One embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention complete.

Referring to the drawings the invention is shown to comprise a band 10 of sheet metal which has its lower edge 11 turned upwardly to form an interlocking joint with the corresponding turned down edge of the fabric 12 which; performs the straining. This method of securing the band to the wire fabric is best shown in'Fig. 5 of the drawings, but' as such formation is well known fully described hereinafter. k holder is here formed with a wooden handle in the art no further description thereof 7 is here deemed necessary.

In the ring 16 are preferably formed bends or loops 18 adapted to project from the band in the manner shown in Fig. 1 so that when the strainer is placed over a bowl or dish, it will be supported upon the rim thereby and the shank of the handle. Indentations 13 are located on the band 0 posite to these projections so that when t e band is turned about the ring 16 these projections extend therethrough as does the shank in the handle. The fabric is then posed by these indentations as is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

While these strainers are usually made in 'semispherical form it should be clearly understood that the structure is not limited to such form or to any articular method of securing the fabric to t e band, for these may be varied as desired and form no part of the present invention.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the class described, a sheet metal band having its upper edge indented at certain points, a wire ring fitting about said band and havin the upper edge of the hand rolled over said ring in looking engagement therewith, said ring having formed thereon certain projections adapted to extend through the correspondin indenband to act as supporting members, and straining cloth attached to said band.

2. In a device of the class described, a strip of sheet metal bent to form a supporting rim, the upper edge of said rim fitting about said band and having the upper edge of the hand rolled over the ring in looking engagement therewith, a handle Q memes formed on said ring and projecting through a notch in the turned edge of said band, a Wire cloth vessel having its upper edge secured to the lower edge of said band, and supporting ribs beneath said vessel having their upper extremities engaging said ring.
