Thisinvention relates to a coffee-making device, and has for its primary object a device that is sanitary in every respect and consisting of two major parts detachably con- 5 nected together for cleaning purposes and when assembled all metallic surfaces effectively covered.
An object of the 0 simple and inexpensive manner of formlng the supporting frame so that the same may be economically manufactured, but at the same time providing projections so disposed as to readily rest upon the upper edge of acoffee pot 1n a manner to satisfactorily accom-modatevariations in the diameter of the opening of the coffee pot.
A feature of my invention is the novel manner of forming andpositioning the hump or projection so that the same may perform :50 the dual function of a supportand a retainer between the bag and the support to oppose accidental relative displacement thereof.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention will be better understood from the followingdctailed description taken in connection' with the accompanying drawing,
wherein j j v Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view, of the device shown in'position'within a coffee pot; Figure 2 is a perspective view, a portion of the bag being re-movedfor clearness. Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the manyconstructions of my invention, the numeral. 1 designates the bag formed from any suitable foraminous'material, such as cloth, with the edge thereof folded back upon'itself and sewed toform the loop portion2. f
The support for the bag. designated in its 40 entirety by the numeral 3, is constructed and designed to have a removable sliding connec tion with the bag and may, therefore, becon structed in various ways, but for the purpose of illustration I have illustratedthe support 46 as formed from a single length of wire bent to form a split, ring 4, one end of which is.
bent laterally or radially from the ring to provide a shank 5 which may be directly formed into a handle or have a handle 6 at- 5.0 tached thereto, as shown in the drawing. It
will be noted that the end portions of the ring are slightly spaced apart to form a space 7 therebetween for a purpose hereinafter describeda I i Arranged diametrically opposite from the invention consists in the is a certain amount of leeway provided inthe shank 5 and also projecting radially from the ring is a hump or projection 8, and due to such position of the hump or projection the same can perform the dual function of a support and a retainer for the bag to prevent accidental displacement of the latter. As the hump is arranged diametrically opposite from the shank 5 and both project laterally from the ring, it can be appreciated that there mounting of the device in a coffee pot so that different size cofli'ee pots can be accommo- ,7 dated. I
To facilitate the feeding or threading of the looped edge 2 of the bag upon the support, the former is formed with a slit 9 extending in a direction to allow the material of the edge portion of the bag to be forced onto the free 7 end of the ring thatis spaced from the shank 5. In the threading of'the looped edge of around the hump 8, and due to this displacement of a portion of the bag out of its normal shape, creates a binding action between the bag and the bump to prevent accidental displacement of the bag upon the frame.
This action isalso facilitated by the right angular position of the shank which Willhave abutting relation witli'the looped edge 'portion of the bag. Asthe placing of the bag upon the ring is a very simple operation, it
will be appreciated that the user, with very little effort, may removethe' bag after each use thereof so that the same maybe thorough ly cleaned and dried for another operation.
Particular attention is also called to the fact that the relation and manner of suspending the bag from the support is such that all metallic surfaces are positively covered, whichnot only prevents chemical action of the liquid coffee and its resultant disadvantages, but accumulation'upon the frame is positively prevented,
at its upper edge with a split loop through llu ,us I the bag upon thering, the same is forced extending beyondfijzhe BHdSQOfTthQ' 'IQOP,a the aoeirlental-detnchmwt of 1the bag from a portion of the ring and being afranged'in t which the ring extends, the ends of'the ring the loop and distorting the same to prevent shank donnectedtdene end of the ringand, fihe ring, the-shank 'andwhuinp iten'statuting extending radially" out-ward from the .ring, supporting elements and the shank also conand a hump projecting re glially outward 15mm stjtniping a l ifpinq element. the rin diametricall opp'o'sitethe spiiten'ds In"cestbime'n'y' $iLe1-e; if I affix my signature. thereo the hump belng formed by ofisejsting CHARLES T.
