Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,551, dated July 2, 1872.

Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Securing-Box, invented by WARREN W. LANGDON, of New Hampton, in the county of Chickasaw and State of Iowa.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved box for containing the materials required for use in scouring knives, &c., and whichshall also furnish a platform upon which the securing may be done; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the scouring-box, as hereinafter more fully described.

A is the body of the box, the back of which projects a little above its top and has a hole formed in its projecting part to receive the nail or spike upon which it is hung when not in use. B is the forward side or door of the box, which is hinged at its lower edge to the front edge of the bottom of the box A, so that it may be turned down into a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 1, to serve as a platform or scouring-board. The door B is made with flanges upon its side edges to prevent the scouring-powder from flying off while being used. The door B is also made with an upwardly-incliued flange, b upon its lower edge,

- as shown in Fig. 1, to form a pocket to receive the scouring-powder that may be left upon the said door and hold it, when the door is closed, ready for use the next time. The door B is held in place when closed by a spring-catch, O. D are two open boxes, which fit into the body A of the box. The boxes D are placed the one above the other, and are pivoted at the ends of their lower inner edges to the sides of the box A. To the sides of the box A, at a little distance below the bottom of the lower box D when in a horizontal position, are at tached stops E to receive the said box and hold it at a proper inclination for the contents to be conveniently removed. The bottom of the upper box D rests upon small frictionwheels, F, attached to the upper parts of the end edges of the lower box D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Upon the front part of the bottom of the box A is formed an upwardlyprojecting flange, a, to form a compartment beneath the lower box D to receive the various articles required for use in scouring, the boxes D being designed for holding the scouringpowder.

With this construction, when the scouring is to be done the door B is opened, which allows the boxes D to drop into an inclined position, as shown in Fig. 2, so thattheir contents may be conveniently reached. When the scouring has been finished the door is closed, which pushes the boxes D back to their places, the powder remaining upon the door B sliding down into the pocket formed by the flange N, where it is kept ready for use the next time.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An improved scouring-box, consisting of the box A a, door B b N, and pivoted boxes D,

with their stops E and friction-rollers F, the

whole being constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described, and

for the purpose set forth.
