To all ohom it may concern.

Be it known that I, IDA Nona IKER, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at Clayton, in the county of'Union and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Hold- I ers; and I do hereby declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exact description of.

the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in broom holders.

The object of this invention is'the provi sion of a broom-holder which isespecially adapted for the replacing of the broom straws therein at the will of the user.-

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a broom holder which is especially adapted for holding broom straws for making brooms or the like and is so equipped that the broom straws may be removed when they become worn and replaced by new broom straws thus furnishing a new broom.

A still further object of this invention is v the provision of a broom holder which is especiallyadapted and equipped with novel means for holding the'broom straws rigidly in position thus preventing loose straws from being scattered about during the sweeping action or usingof the broom.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a holder which is especially equipped with novel means whereby the broom straw may be easily and quickly removed therefrom and replaced at the will of the user, and with a comparatively small amount of labor.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a broom holder which is simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, the numeral 1 designates my improved broom holder in its entirety and it is constructed of metal or aluminum or any other material suitable for the purpose. The holder comprises in its tangular body which has a rear wall 2, a front wall 3, which front wall constitutes a hinged lid which will be hereinafter more fully described. The front and rear walls 2 and 3 which are connected by an endwall 4, and the upper ends of the front, rear, and end walls are tapered upwardly as at 5 and terminate into a cylindrical handle receiving sleeve 6 in which is rigidly secured a handle 7 by suitablerivets 8.

The front wall 3 is hingedlysecured as at 9 so as to permit access to the interior of the rectangularbody l. A coil spring 10 is arranged horizontally within the rectangular body lat a point above the hinged connection of thecover therewith. The opposite ends of the coil spring 10 are extended as at 11 in opposite directions and have their free terminals terminating into attaching portions or members 12. One of the attaching portions of one end of the spring 10 is rigidly secured as at 13 to the rear wall' of the holder 1 while the ,opposite attaching member 12 of the spring 10 is detachably connected to thecover 3 as at 14, the angularly bent end 12 extending into an eye. 15 which is carried on the inner face of the cover adjacent its hinged connection. A reinforcing rod 16 is arranged horizontally through the coils of the spring 10 and has its ends extending rearwardly as at 17 and extended through eyes 18 which are secured to the inner side of the rear wall 2 of the holder 1. A second pair of clamps are secured'to the inner face of the rear wall 2 and front cover 3. The members 22 are located adjacent the lower edges of the rear Wall and the front Wall 3 as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The trontface of each of the members 2'2 are provided with teeth 23 which bite into the broom cornand effectively hold the same positioned between moving cover 3 and the rear wall 2 of the holder 1. The broom straw 21 is arranged between the end Walls d and the front and rear Walls 3 and 2 of the holder 1. By positioning the clamping: members 20 adjacent the hinged or upper end of the holder and arrangingthe clamping members adjacent the lower edges thereof, the broom straw 2-1 has itsnpper ends eii'ecti rely secured Within the holder 1 when the device is innse. What is claimed is:

1. A broom holder of the class described including a body, said body having its front Wall hinged and'oonstitnting a cover, broom straws positioned between the front, and rear walls of the cover, clamps carried by the rear Welland the hinged cover for engaging the straws, spring means arranged in the body and engaging the cover for normally holding the same the clamps in engagement with the rows. and means carried by the hinged Wall and detachably engaging the rear wall'to positively hold the cover in its closed position.

2. A. broom holder of the class described I including a body, said body having its front Wall hinged and constituting a cover. broom strawsarranged between the rear Wall and the cover, clamps carried by the rear wall and the hinged cover for engaging the broom straws, a coil spring arranged in the body, having one end thereoi rigidly secured to the rear Wall of the body, and its opposite end detachably secured to the hinged cover for normally holdingthe cover in its closed position in engagement with thest-raws, the end ofthe spring engaging the cover being detachable therefrom so that the spring can be detached and the cover held in its raised position, and hooks carried by the hinged cover for engaging the'body to positively hold the cover in its closed position. a
