Description

(No Model.)
T. H. DOYLE.
WHISK OR OTHER BROOM HOLDER.
No. 274,471. Patented Mar.27 1883.
UNITED STATES TnoMAs H. DOYLE, or NORWICH, nnwronn.
WHISK OR OTHER BROOM HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Nb. 274,471, dated March 27, 1883.
Application filed December 7.1852. (X0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. DOYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of Ohenango and State of New York. have invented a new and useful Whisk or other Broom Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. n
This invention relates to devices for holding brooms or brushes, such as whisk or sweeping brooms, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient device, adapted to hang on the wall and support the broom.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my holder with the whisk in place. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the holder. Fig. '3 is a horizontal cross-section on the line 50 as, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the spring or elastic portion by which the con vergent strips or blocks B B are suspended and held in position, the above constituting the entire holder. The suspending spring device A is bent to form a top eye or loop, a, from which extend downwardly two divergent arms,
' a a, each of which has its end a bent up and along the rear edge of the block B, its point n being turned in and entering the block. The end a is preferably secured against the rear edge, I), of the block B by astaple, C, as shown. The blocks B B are suspended on spring-arms a a, so as to converge downwardly, and have their interior faces, 1), coneaved, so as to adapt them to theshape of the whisk or broom.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood. The holder is hung on the wall by passing its top eye, a, overa nail, and the whisk or broom is placed in the holder handle downward. The whisk or broom is supported by the blocks B B, which are held by the tension of the spring-arms, this tension enabling the blocks to clamp the straws of the whisk or broom and retain them in shape. When the broom is to be removed it is simply drawn down out from between the blocks B B, which separate by'reason of the tension of arms a a, but return immediately to their normal convergent position after withdrawal of the broom.
.These holders will be manufactured in different sizes and styles, to adapt them to the varying sizes of whisks and sweeping'hrooms, and the invention will be found especially useful and elfective in holding the latter.
I claim as my invention 1. A whisk or other broom holder having a vergent spring-arms, each carrying a holding strip or portion, said strips being relatively convergent and provided or formed with concaved inner faces, as set forth.
2. A whisk or other broonnholder comprising a spring suspending portion bent to form THOMAS H. DOYLE.
