FIGURE TOY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, BELLE B. GoLEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Washington, in the District of (Jolum ia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of this invention has been to devise an amusement device of the class ordinarily known as figure toys. In the carrying out of the invention I contemplate the provision of figures in imitation of a traveling horse with a rider mounted thereon, the improvements hereof residing in the provision of novel instrumentalities whereb to impart to the horse figure, and to mem ers thereof, special movements of a more or less realistic nature, provisions being made at the same time for causing movement of the puppet or rider fi are as an incident to that of the first name figure.
With reference to detail features, the stated instrumentalities comprise primarily driving means connecting a crank axle wit the body of the horse figure in such a manner as to cause a rocking action of the latter, with other connections such that the main rocking movement aforesaid is utilized to transmit movements to the head, leg and tail elements of said figure, as well as to the puppet on the horse.
In the accompan ing drawing:
Figure 1 is a si e elevation of a toy embodying the essential features of the invention;
Fl 2 isa vertical sectional view bringing out t e operating parts unseen in Fi 1;
hi 3 is a fragmentary sectional vlew on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. i is a fragmentary perspective view of certain details.
Describing the invention in its preferred embodiment, it will be noted that a base 1 is utilized, the same being arranged upon rear supporting wheels 2 and front wheels 3, the latter being connected by an axle formed with a crank 4. Extending upwardly from the crank a is a connecting lever 5, the pivotal axis 6 of which attaches the lever to the spaced members forming the sides of the body 7 of the horse figure, said axis 6 also connecting the front legs 8 to the body 7. The lever 5 has its upper end engaging in a notch 9 in thelower portion of the head element 10 whereby a slight up and down movement may be imparted to the a den ct Letter-a Patent.

head 10 as an incident to the rocking movement capable of being imparted to the body 7 by the lever 5. Sad rocking movement is obtalnable owing to the fact that the body 7 is pivoted at 11 to a standard12 rigid on the base 1. The rear legs 13 are pivotally connected with the body 7 also and in order that these legs may move in synchronism with the front legs a connecting rod 14. is provided intermediate these parts. Said rod has T-shaped ends the lateral portions of which ends protrude throu h slots 15 in the side members of the body and engage in openings in the legs adjacent thereto which legs are arranged exterior to said side members.
Movement is imparted to the legs 8 and 13 from the body '7 by a lever 16 having pin and slot connection 17 with the body, a sort of rocker bearing intermediate its ends on the standard 12, as shown at 18, and a T- head at its rear end engaging the rear legs 13 to actuate these legs on ivotal movement The actuation of the legs 13 is imparted to the legs 8 by the rod 14 before described. A tail 19 is pivoted-to the body. 7 as shown and a flexible member 20 connects the inner end of the tail with the standard 14 so that as the body 7 rocks the tail is caused to move up and down slightly relatively to the body.
The puppet or rider figure 21 is a jointed figure, the arms 22 being pivotally connected to the head 10 and the legs of the figure pivotally connected with the puppet body. During the rocking movement of the horse figure the rider figure 21 is thrown upwardly, and its movement being limited by a flexible member 23 connecting the parts 7 and 21. IFhe puppet drops back onto the horse figure and this up and down movement continues with more or less simulation to the actual ridin motion.
The dotte lines in Fig.2 illustrate the range of movement of the legs and other arts somewhat after the manner of a gal lbping horse and rider.
The toy is simply constructed and for this reason may be very cheaply made, and possesses obvious advantages as an amusement device for children particularly.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. in a figure toy, the combination of a base, a crank shaft thereon, a figure pivotally supported on the base and comprising tit)
