Be it known that I, FRANK Gainer, a
citizen of the United States, residing at.
Sharpsville, in the county of. Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Walking Doll, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to that class of toys in which is included a figure, which maybe therepresentation of a doll, of a bird or of an animal, and which has leg .portions adapted, when the toy is pulled or pushed along the floor or other base to assume the walking attitude and-my said invention primarily seeks to provide a toy of the character stated, in which the several parts are so designed and provided with cooperating connections of such character that they can be economically made. and

To walk the toy apply the pull lever 12, for example as in Fig. 1, and the doll being in the vertical position, pull the lever '12 slowly forward and, since there is always a slight difference in traction of the feet,

1. A walking toy that includes a body, a pair of stiff legs pivotally connected to the oody to swing backwardly and forwardly relativel to the said body, a pull member and means cotiperating with the body and the legs for imparting a reverse movement to one leg as the other leg moves forward,-

walking direction of the toy, and' means 00- operating with the body and the legs for imparting a reverse movement to one leg as the other leg moves forward, as the body is pulled forwardly or backwardly, the first stated means comprisinga lever having'its free end shaped to connect with the body of the toy and a handle'iflexibly comiected to the outer end of the lever, the said handle including a vertical elongated socket into which the outer end of the pull member extends, and a connection that joins the pull member and the handleand which permits of relatively vertical movement of the handle and the pull member and holds the said pull member from lateral motion.-
4. A walking toy comprising a body, a pair of rigid legs having hip joint connections with the body for permitting forward and backward swinging thereof, a device pivotally mounted on the body and having its opposite ends held in flexible engagement with the legs, whereby, as the body and the legs are pulled along, as one leg moves forwardly, the oscillation of the said device operates to swing the. other leg backwardly.
6. A walking toy comprising a body, a pair of rigid legs having hip joint connections with the body for permitting forward and backward swinging thereof, a rocking device pivotally mounted on the body and having its opposite ends-held in flexible engagement with the legs, whereby, as the body and the legs are pulled along, as one leg moves forwardly, the oscillation of the said device operates to swing the other leg backwardly, and stop devices on the body engageable by the legs on their backward swing to limit the backward .and forward swing of such legs.
