Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1918.
Application led December 18, 1917. Serial No. 207,759. i
To all whom t may concern:
' Be it known that we, 'lnnooonn' J. LA Rosa and ABRAHAM H. GINsBERG, citizens of the United States, residing at Tallahassee, in the county of Leon and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to new and useful improvements in a sign and more particularly to a rotatable sign.
The principal object of our invention is the provision of a sign, which is simple and inexpensive in construction and which will rotate to bring various signs or advertisements in view.
A further object is the construction of the sign in such a manner that it may be secured to various forms of support.
With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts as will be fully understood from the following specification and drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a top plan.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an end view.
Fig. 5 is a top plan of the blank from which the upper strip is formed, and
Fig. 6 is the blank from which the lower strip is formed.
ln the drawings the numeral 1 indicates a concrete base set in the ground and 2 indicates a post having one end embedded in the base 1. The upper end of the post is threaded as indicated at 3 for the purpose as will be presently described. A collar 4 is adjustably secured on the post 2 by means of the set screw 5.
A metal strip 6, having a central opening therein, is received upon the post 2 and rests upon the collar 4 as more particularly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This strip 6 is slit on each side of the central opening as indicated at 7 and the edges are adapted to be bent upwardly to form the ianges 8 on opposite edges of the strip o and on opposite sides of the central opening. Plates 9 are secured to the flanges 8 by means of rivets 10 or other suitable fastenlng means and a metal strip 11 is supported upon the top edges of the plates 9. This strip 11 is provided with a central opening through which the post 2 passes and is slit from opposite edges as indicated more particularly in Fig. 5 of the drawings. The slits l2 are on opposite sides of the central opening and the edges of the strip are adapted to be bent downwardly to form depending flanges 13. Rivets la pass through the flanges 13 and plate 9 for securing the strip 11 to the plates. A nut 15 is received upon the threaded end 3 of the post 2 and engages the upper surface of the arious advertisements may be painted upon the faces of the plates 9 and when the plates are struck by the wind the sign will be rotated to bring different advertisements in view.
Whilepwe have illustrated the post 2 for supporting the rotatable sign it will be understood that supports of di'derent characters could be used for connecting the sign to buildings or the like.
From the above detailed description it will be seen that we have provided a sign which is simple and inexpensive in con struction and upon which a plurality of advertisements may be painted and brought to view by the rotation of the sign. By removing the nut l5 the rotatable sign might be removed and another sign substituted and by adjusting the collar et upon the post 2 signs of various heights might be used.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Way of Letters Patent is:
A sign comprising a support, a collar adjustably connected to the support, a strip rotatably mounted upon the collar and having upstanding flanges on opposite edges thereof, a second strip rotatably mounted anion.
upon the support and having depending In testimony whereof we aix our signa flanges on oppositeV edges, plates secured tures in presence of two Witnesses.
between the upstandng anges of the rst THEODORE J. LA ROSE. mentioned strip, and the depending flanges ABRAHAM H. GINSBERG. of the second mentioned strip, and means Witnesses:
engaging!y the upper strlp for holding the W. L. GLAUSIER,
lower Strip upon the collar. M. S. FINGERHUT.
