UNITED STATES PATENTIQEEIICE.
WILLIAM H. EARNES'I, on PARKERSBURG, wEsT VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR To JOHN B. EBERT.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,375, dated June 25, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. EARNEST, of Parkersburg, in the county of Wood and in the State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oradles and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the.
construction and arrangement of a cradle, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- I Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cradle and stand, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bar connecting the two end pieces of the stand, with the connection between the same and the cradle.
A Arepresent the two end pieces, connected by a straight bar, 13, and forming the stand upon which the cradle rests. The upper edges "of the end pieces A A are perfectly straight or level. 0 represents the cradle, constructed in any suitable manner, and having the rockers D attached on the outside of the ends of the cradle near'the lower edge, said rockers resting upon the stand. The cradle is connected to the stand by means of a metal strip, G, at each end. The inner end of each strip G is attached to the upper side of the bar B, and the outer end is slotted, as shown in Fig. 2. Through this slot passes a headed pin or screw into the center of the lower edge of the end piece of the cradle. These metal strips thus form keepers to hold the cradle to its place on the stand. Near each end of the bar B is a metal stirrup, J, attached, which passes over and around the keepers G G, so as to prevent the cradle rocking too far. One of these stirrups is stationary, while the other is pivoted and provided with a handle, a, so as to be turned over a projection, 12, on the inside of the cradle, thus acting as a stop, by means of which the cradle may be made stationary when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the stand A B, cradle O D, metal strips or keepers G G, stirrups J J, and projection b, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
. W. H. EARNEST.
