UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS M. CROSBY,- OF ASHTABULA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,552, dated December 28, 1875; application filed December 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS M. ORosBY, of Ashtahula, in the county of Ashtabula and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new andusefulImprovementsinWash-Boards; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the mode of constructing the sides and rounds of a Wash-board, as also in the mode of putting the several parts together, as will be hereinafter more particularly set forth.
In the'annexed drawings making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section, and. Fig. 3 a view of one of the rounds.
In the figures, A A represent the two side pieces of the wash-board, which are grooved longitudinally on their inner faces, as seen at new. a a and D D represent the rounds of the board. The rounds at a pass through the side pieces, and are keyed or wedged in, so as to be permanent. The rounds D are provided at their ends with tenons e 6. These tenons pass into the grooves .70 w, and thus prevent the rounds from turning, and at the same time form a cheap and convenient mode of connecting the parts of the wash-board to- B represents the board above the rounds, which is connected to the top piece 0, and which slides in the grooves 50 .00, its lower end fitting in a groove, y, in the upper roller a. When the rounds at a are wedged in place,
and the top (J is nailed to the side pieces A- A, the wash-board is formed solid, and is ready for use.
By thus constructing the wash-board the used in connecting the parts excepting those used for securing the cap G to the frame.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ofthe side pieces A A, having longitudinal grooves 00, the lower stationary round a, the movable rounds D, having tenons e, the upper stationary round at, having groove y, and, the board B, all constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of November, 1875.
