IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.128,343, dated June 25, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, D. H. WEAVER, of North Liberty, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the *annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures ofthe pickets, and B the horizontal bars of a fence. O represents the sill of the fence-bracket, having a gain cut in its top surface at d. D represents the oblique side bars or braces of the bracket secured to the sill, and to a transverse bar, E, having a gain, d, corresponding to the gain 61. The bars D are beveled on their inner edges, so as to be flush or nearly so with the sides of the gain d. E indicates vertical posts, arranged between the gains (1 d.
In putting up the fence the horizontal bars are placed side by side between the posts E, after which a wedge, F, is driven down through an aperture inthe bar E, so as to enter the gain d outside one of the posts E. The force of this wedge holds the horizontal bars securely in position.
The horizontal bars B may be placed at any desirable inclination to adapt the fence to hill sides.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The fence bracket, having the sill G notched at d, oblique braces D, and transverse bar E notched at d, in. combination with the vertical posts E, horizontal bars B, and wedge or pin F, substantially as specified.
