Description

A. P. MASON.
Check-Rein Runner.
Patented June-18,1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARNOLD P. MASON, OF FRANKLINVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHECK-REIN RUNNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,052, dated J une 18, 1872; antedated June l, 1872.
I, ARNOLD P. MASON, of Franklinville, Gattaraugus couuty,`New York, have invented an Improved Check-Rein Runner, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in a check-rein runner constructed in a peculiar manner, and so combined with a throat-latch billet that the runner cannot vibrate or work loose therein.
Referring to the drawing-in which Figure 1 is a side elevation ot' a throat-latch billet and runner connected, Fig. 2 a perspective view of the runner, and Fig. 3 a front elevation of the throat-latch, showing the slit and holesa is the loop of: the runner, cast in the form of an incomplete oval of more than half size, the ends of which are secured to one side of a iiat plate, b, cast in one piece with the loop. By this construction the plate or head b is made to complete the oval, and a saving of metal is effected as compared with those l runners in which the loop is complete by itself and the plate is attached to it.
To prepare the throat-latch billet c for the reception of the runner two holes should be punched in the former, one close to the front piece of the bridle, as far apart as the distance between the ends of the loop a, and the holes d 'side instead of metal all around. The loopmay be inserted from either side of the latch. When it is inserted from the outside the plate b should be suitably ornamented.
I claim as my invention- The runner, consisting of the loop a and plate b, making together an oval or otherwise y shaped complete loop, the ends of the part a. being at or near the ends of the plate, and combined with the billet c, in the manner specified, so as not to chafe or vibrate therein.
