A. HOSACK.
BRIDLE.
N0. 250,920. Patented Deo. 13.1881.
WITJV' ESSE S I JV' VEN' TOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED HOSAGK, OF SILVER LAKE, INDIANA.
BRIDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,920, dated December 13, 1881.
Application filed May 16, 1881.
I0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED HosAoK, of SiL ver Lake, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make n nd use the same, reference beinghadto the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part ot'this specilication, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a bridle provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the brow-band detached. Fig. 3 is a similar View, showinga modified construction of the brow-band; and Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view ot' one end of the blinder-stay, showing the device for attaching it to the blinder. i
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in all the figures.
My invention relates to stays t'or bridle-blinders; and it consists in the improvements hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, A A represent the cheek-straps of a headstall or bridle. B is the noseband, and C is the brow-band. D is the crown-piece, to the middle of which is buckled a leather strap or billet,A E, to the lower end of which is riveted a socketed plate, F, into which is inserted the bent middle part, g, of the blinder-stay G, which is secured adj ustably within said plate F by means ot' a clampingscrew, f.
The brow-band C has a central slot, @,which may be formed either by inserting wedgeshaped pieces ot' leather or other material, b b, between the inner and outer straps composing the band, as shown in Fig. 2, or by riveting a loop or keeper, C', ot' nickel-plated metal or other suitable material, to the middle part of the band, as shown in Fig. 3; or, again, where (No model.)
the brow-band has an ornamen tal plated strip running its entire length, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 at d, the loop may be formed by striking up or raising the middle part of the band. The billet E, to the lower end of which the stay Gis attached in the manner described,is inserted through the slot or opening c in the browband, which ,it will thus be seen, preventslateral motion or displacement of the billet and stay.
The blinders H H are attached by their upper outer corners to the ends of the stay G b v means of small plates or castings I, the shank@l of each of which has a screw-threaded recess, into which is screw/ed the outer threaded end of the stay. The outer end ot' each of these end plates, I, has aslot or opening, 7c, through which is inserted a small leather loop, K, (see Fig. 4,) which is attached to the blinder. ofattnchment oftheblinders to the stay affords a limited play for the former, so that they will not chafe or worry the horse, and yet be held suflciently rigid in place to prevent undue motion or flapping.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl. The blinder-stay G, provided with the detachable end plates, I, having screw-threaded Shanks i and slots or openings k, substantially as set forth.
2. In a headstall or bridle, the blinder-stay G, provided with the detachable end plates, I, having screw-threaded Shanks i and slots k, in combination with the blinders H, having iiexi- Able loops K, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as in my own I have`hereto affixed my signature This means
