HAIR-CURLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented (Dot. 1, 1918.,
Application filed November 12, 1917. Serial No. 201,696.
Be it known that I, AXEL' NEWDALL, a citizen of the'United States, and a resident of Mlnneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in -Hair- Curlers, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my. invention is to provide in a hair curlerimproved means for holding the. hair while it is being crimped or' curled.
Another object'of my invention is to provide in-a hairiourler means for crimping or curling the hair uniformly.
With these and incidental objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of, parts, the essential elements of which are hereinafter described with reference to-the drawing which accompanies and forms a partof this specification.
In the drawing Figure 1' is a plan view of my improved hair curler; Fig. 2 is a side I together at 2.
view of the same, "and Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33, Fig; 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
In my preferred construction I form a body memwire, with the free ends preferably welded "A U-sh'aped slightly above the straight sides of the body, as better shown in Fig. 2, and a lip 4 is similarly raised, as also shown in Fig. 2.
A tongue 5 is hinged to the neck 3 preferer I1,- Fig. 1, of a's'ingle piece of neck 3, at one end, is raised of the tongue 5 will form crimps in the hair and the hair will hold the-tongue 5 into en'- gagement at its end 7 with the lip .4. I
, While I have described my invention and illustrated it in one'particular design, l'do not wish it understood that I limit myself to this construction, as it is evident that the application of my invention may be varied .in' many ways within the scopeof the folclaim.
Clalmc' r c As an article of manufacture a hair curler comprising a body member having two substantially parallel sides, a lip member joining said parallel members at one end, the center portion of said lip member being lowing I raised above the plane of said side bars, a
neck at the opposite end of said body from said lip in which the free ends of the wire forming said body member are joined, said neck being raised above the plane of said side bars, a tongue formed of a single piece of wire and hinged on said neck by one or more convolutions formed there-around and adapted to engage with the lip'at the oppobody. v
