UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM COOPER, OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN.-
IMPROVEMENT IN ZLOTHES-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,577, dated J line 4, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAIVI Goornn, of Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- W'ringers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the means for attaching a clothes-wringer to a wash-tub; and also in the means for adjusting the pressure of the rollers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- A Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 an end view, of a clothes-wringer with my improvements attached thereto.
A A represent the slotted end pieces, which are connected by suitable connecting-bars, and have'the rollers B B between them, the journals of the rollers passing into the slots of the end pieces. Upon the journals of the upper roller B in the slotted end pieces A A are placed blocks 0 O, which slide up and down in said slots. The two blocks (1 O are connected by a spring-bar, D, which is pressed down by an eccentric lever, E, pivoted in the upper cross-bar connecting the two end pieces. By this means the pressure of the upper roller on the lower is readily regulated. G G represent the legs or bars for attaching thewringer to a wash-tub. Each of these legs is attached, by a screw, H, to one of the end pieces A, and between each end piece and leg, surrounding the screw, is a spiral spring, a, to throw the leg out on the screw. The upper end of each leg Gris slotted vertically, and in said slot is pivoted an eccentric lever, I, constructed as'shown in Fig. 2, the eccentric part be -ing formed of a rim or ring which passes through an eye or staple, I), attached to the end piece.
In attaching the wringer on the edge of a tub or box the screws H H are first sufficiently screwed up, and then, by turningthe levers I I downward, the upper ends of the legs are thrown out, pressing the lower ends inward against the tub or box. By raising the levers the upper ends of the legs are drawn inward, releasing the lower ends.
Having'thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the slotted end pieces A A, blocks 0 O, rollers BB,legs G G, screws H H, springs to a, eccentric lever I I, staples b b, bar D, and eccentric lever E, all substanas set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of January, 1871.
WILLIAM COOPER. Witnesses:
G. L. EVERT, SAML. W PARSONS.
