SANITARY' PILLOW-COVERING.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JAMES W. BIGHAM and WILLIAM J. BARKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in 'the county of Duvaland State of Florida,

to provide an absorbent auxiliary cover for the pillow proper.

A further object is to construct the auxiliary covering'of a soft waterproof paper, or of a soft paper provided with a coating of paraffin on one side.

A further object is to construct the auxiliary pillow cover, in such a manner, that the same can be folded upon itself on the end of the pillow and its'sides overlapped on the longitudinal edges of the pillow, thereby allowing the cover to be easily placed over thepillow and at the same time providing a structure, wherein a paper material'may be used.

A further object is to provide an auxiliary cover for a pillow to prevent the perspira tion or oils used upon the hair of the sleeper from penetrating the pillow, often causing I disease to be transmitted to others and also imparting odors that are objectionable to other occupants of the bed.

A further object is to construct the auxiliary cover that when one side of the pillow has been used, the used side of the auxiliary cover may be detached from the unused side and the pillow turned over, so that the pillow will present the clean side of the pillow case with the unused side of the auxiliary cover to the next occupant of the bed.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the details of construction and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described can be made within the scope of what is claimed with- Specification of Letters Patent.

out departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pillow having the auxiliary cover thereon, showing the same in position to be placed in the pillow casing.

Referring to the drawing 1 designates a pillow of the usual construction comprising the ticking 2, which is provided with a filling 3 of hair, feathers or other material.

Between the pillow casing 4:, which is of the A usual construction andthe pillow 1 is an auxiliary pillow covering 5, which comprises the enlarged portions 6 and 7 adapted to overlie and register with the top and bottom surfacesof the pillow. The sectlons 6 and 7 are provided with portions 8 and 9, which when the auxiliary covering is disposed between the pillow and the pillow casing, overlap as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2,

and 3. The sanitary auxiliary covering on either side, substantially intermediate its. length is provided with notches or cutaway portions 10 so that the overlapping members 8 and 9will readily overlap when the auxiliary covering is in place. These cutaway portions also form means or starting points for tearing the sections apart when it is desired to remove one of the sections 6 and 7 without removing the pillow from the easfrom the filling therein. It will also be seen, that the used side of the auxiliary covering may be torn from the clean and unused side, without removing the pillow casing and the pillow turned over, thereby presenting a fresh side'of the casing for the next occupant of the bed or user of the pillow, the unused side of the auxiliary covering will also be in position for use. It is the object to construct the auxiliary covering from a over the members 8. The pillow being completely covered with a waterproof auxiliary covering it is then in condition to be .placed in the pillow casing a. It will be seen that by constructing the auxiliary covering in this way, that a closefit on the pillow can be obtained.

Tn Figs. 6 and 7 it will be seen that the auxiliary casing 5= is made bag shaped, that is of the shape of the pillow casing l, but suiiiciently large so that the pillow 1 can be easily placed therein without tearing the auxiliary casing. This casing 5 upon its three side edges 5 is provided with perforations 12 so that the used side of the casing may be removed, if desired and the unused side left in the pillow.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. An auxiliary pillow covering disposed between the ticking ofa pillow and the pil low casing, comprising an elongated member, adapted tobe bent upon itself to form upon itself at said notches, thereby forming top and bottom sections adapted to register with the top and bottom surfaces of the pillow, said sections having overlapping in-' tegral members which when overlapped in conjunction with the sections form a complete auxiliary covering for the pillow.

3. An auxiliary pillow covering disposed between the ticking of a pillow and the pillow casing, comprising an elongated member having means central of its length upon which the covering is folded thereby forming top and bottom sections, said sections registering with the top and lower surfaces of the pillow and means centrally located upon said auxiliary covering whereby one section of said covering may be easily torn from the other without removing the pillow and other section from the pillow casing.

. l. An auxiliary pillow covering disposed between the ticking ofa pillow and the pillow casing, comprising a covering having sections for engaging and covering both sides of the pillow and provided with means whereby the sections may be easily separated.
