Be it known that I, PER1LU'DVIG LARsoN,

a subject of King Gustavus V of Sweden and residing at Sner End Triest, Metuchen,

New Jersey, county of Middles'ex, have invented certain new and useful Improvements I in Detachable Bed-Seats, of which the fol:

1 This invention relates-to detached seats, and especially to that class whereln a seat may be attached to the end of a bedstead.

One advantage of my invention is to atteach a seat to a bed and thereb make it unnecessary to sit in bed while ressing:

In the straight portion of the frame isti'es is provided with integral hooks 3 and permanently secured a strip 16 .to which a board 2 is fastened by means of hinges 4 and I 14. The frame 6 is retained in shape by a rod 1 which has a further function as will presently develop. Two corners of board 2 have been cut out at 11 and 13 to fit the posts 12 of the bed 10, frame 6 being provided with-an inner portion 7 to support board 2 in position.

To attach my invention to the 'bed, it is .merely necessary to drop it into position on bracket9 as seen in Fig. 1.. In this position a hook 8, which is secured to frame 6 retains the seat in upright position, the whole apparatus resting on the brackets 9 beneath rod 1. In this position the seat is an admirable foot'board, also cutting all direct drafts from thefeet. If the top of frame 6 is now draw-n outward and the mattress 15 raised a little, the frame'will clear posts 12 and board 2 will open upward, the whole apparatusassuming the positionof Fig. 2. When frame 6 isdrawndownward as far as it will go, hooks 3 and 5 engage the lower edges of the bed 10, the rod 1 resting on brackets 9, while board 2 drops into theframe and'engages posts 12 by means of cuts 11 and 13. The seat is then locked in 4 the position shown in Fig. 3- and cannot tip or be accidentally raised except by first raising board 2. Throughout these sim le movements of the seat, it will be noted t at rod '1 is a fulcrum, lying on the brackets which support the=s ring and'is limited between posts 12 and name 10.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim: v

1. An end seat for beds including a U frame retained in shape by means of a rod secured to the limbs thereof and within the extremities of the same, hooks upon the inner opposite faces of said extremities. and a hook adapted to engage the top of said bed secured to the portion-0f said U frame parallel with said rod.

2. A folding seat including a U frame having a rod secured between the limbs of said frame adapted to act as a fulcrum when raising or lowering said frame and a panel titted within said frame.

A folding seat including a U frame provided with oppositely situated inward extensions terminating in opposite hooks arranged in line and adapted to engage the lower edges of a bed within the posts thereof and a panel adapted to set into the bowed portion of said frame.

4. A detachable seat including a U frame' provided on the extremities of both limbs with opposite hooks adapted to engage the frame of a bed, a fulcrum adapted to rest on said bed frame on each of sald limbs withinsaid hooks, a. panel or board adapted to set into said U frame and means to support said panel in position. 4

A detachable bed seat including a horse shoe frame adapted to straddle a bed, a tierod secured between the limbs of said frame within the extremities of said limbs'adapted to rest directly upon said bed, a hook mounted upon said frame engaging one end of said bed to retain said frame in an up right position. and a board hinged to the. portion of said frame generally parallel with said rod, and inward extensions upon said frame to support said board,
