Description

NELL F. WINGET, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
LAUNDERABLE HAT.
Specieaticn of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1918..
Application flied July 25, 1914. Serial No. 852,974.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, NELL F. WINGET, citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Launderable Hats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a launderable hat; and, to such ends, the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings Figure l is a perspective view, showing the hat with its rim turned down;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the hat with its rim turned up; and f Fig. 3 is a plan view, showing the hat laid out flat and in condition to be ironed.
The crown of the hat is made up of a plurality of segments 1, all of the seams eX- cept one thereof being preferably sewed t0- gether; but this one seam being made separable from the lower edge to the apex of the crown, by means of separable fasteners, such as buttons 2 and button-holes 3.
'Ihe rim 4 is sewed to the bottom of the crown, and isy adapted to be turned downward or upward at will. The said rim, in line with the separable seam or joint of the f hat crown, has slightly separated edges formed with button-holes 5. In lieu of buttons and button-holes, other forms of fasteners, such, for example, as the type known as glove fasteners, might be employed.
When the coperating fasteners are separated, the hat is adapted to be laid out in Copies of this patent may be obtained for approximately fiat condition, and this adapts the hat to be easily washed and instances, the crown and rim might be divided on both sides, so as to adapt the two sections of the hat to be entirely separated for laundering purposes; but the construction illustrated is preferred.
What I claim is 1. A pliable launderable hat having permanently united crown and rim portions, said crown portion being made up of a plurality of connected segmental pieces, the joint between two of said segmental pieces having separable fasteners, and the said crown being divided on the line of the joint between the separable segments.
2. A pliable launderable hat having permanently united crown and rim portions divided on a line that radiates from the central portion of said crown, coperating buttons and button holes on vthe divided edges of said crown, the said rim,`at the edges of its divided end, having button holes adapted to be applied over one of said buttons on said crown when the rim is turned upward.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELL F. WINGET.
