' a hollow elongated body containing a spherical weight or ball whereby when the toy is placed at the top of an inclined plane. will make a tumbling or end over end movement produced by the effect of gravity on the ball. Another object is to so construct a toy of this character that the weight or ball therein will be prevented from lateral movement and thereby insure the end over end movement of the" toy without any lateral pla \Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds. the invention resides in the combination and arrangement. of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may he made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

' sponds to both transverse dimensions of the hollow body 1 as is shown clearly in Fig. 3 so that while the ball may move longitudinally in the body it can have no sidewise movement and thereby insures the end over end or tumbling movement of the toy in a. straight line without any wabbling to one side such as would be caused if the ball and tubular body were not of the same size.

The surface of the body is printed, engraved. painted or otherwise decorated, and as here shown has a face 5 represented thereon with arms as (i on its opposite sides and a representation of mans clothing on the front face as shown at 7 so that when the toy is moved end over end it will have the appearance of a man turning a somersanlt.

The figure thus constructed when placed upon an inclined plane as indicated at 8 will move to the bottom thereof executing a series of somersaults in its course.

This toy can be very cheaply made and will he a source of lasting amusement for both old and young.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of opcrmtion of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best. embodiment thereof. I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.

A tumbling toy of the class described comprising a hollow elongated body substantially square in cross section. the ends of said body being rounded on their outer faces and curv .d on their inner faces, and a spherical weight disposed in said body, said weight corresponding in diameter to both diameters of said body.
