IMPROVEMENT IN DOLLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,582, dated June 15, 1875; application filed December 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WESLEY MILLER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Flexible Rubber Dolls, of which the following is a specification:
My improvement consists in the introduction of a soft wire skeleton or frame within a hollow flexible rubber doll, so that the limbs or parts thereof may be placed or bent in any required position, remaining in such position, or may be changed from one position to another, the wire within holding the parts in the position desired.
A doll so constructed will afford great amusement to a child, as it may be placed in so many life-like positions, both pleasing and instructive.
My improvement will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of my improved doll. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, showing the wire frame a. Fig. 3
is a frame made of spiral wire. frame made of zigzag wire.
- This frame or skeleton could be made of other material, and jointed so as to answer the purpose; but I prefer to use the soft wire without joints, as it is cheaper and will hold the parts in place better than the jointed frame. It will be readily understood that the frame may be made of straight or spiral wire, as shown by Figs. 2 and 3, or in a zigzag form, as shown by Fig. 4, and may be applied to the entire body and limbs, or only a part thereof, as the manufacturer may desire to make them.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a hollow flexible rubber doll, provided with the wire frame A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
