Application filed February 29, 1916.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT BRUCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy in which a figure is connected with a vibratory support held above a platform which when vibrated will cause the figure to dance.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a figure with a body having a plurality of openings in any one of which may be received one end of the vibratory support so that when the'bodv is moved in a vertical direction by means of the support connected therewith the figure will be caused to assume grotesque positions without interfering with the swinging movement of the arms, legs and head thereof.
A further object of the invention is to so arrange the openings in the body of the figure which receive the end of the vibratory support as to enable the body to .be connected with the support at various angles, thus increasing the comical appearance of the figure and. the number of positions which the figure may assume when brought into contact with the vibratory platform by means of the support.
A further object of the invention is to provide the ,ody of the figure with sides held in spaced relation by a spacing member so arranged that recesses within the body are formed at the top and bottom thereof to receive the legs and head of the figure, sothat when the body is connected with the vibratory support the legs and head are free to turn about their pivots, and ay be caused to move either by the vibratory motion of.
drawing, although no restriction is made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations and modifications within the scopeof the claims may be resorted to when desired.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 81,232.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side eleva tion of a dancing toy constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a view slmilar to Fig. 1, showing the body moved by means of the support to cause the figure to assume a grotesque position while in contact with the vibratory platform. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the figure to more clearly disclose the position of the openings which receive the end of the vibratory support. Fig. 4 is a plan view, partly in section/of the body of the figure showing one side thereof broken awav and disclosin the spacing member within the body and the openings therein. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one end of the vibratory support. with which the body of the toy may be connected.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates a support, such as a chair or the like, and to which is connected in any suitable manner one end of a strip of resilient material 2 which serves as a vibratory platform. A figure 3 is adapted to be supported above the platform 2 by means of a vibratory support 4; which preferably comprises astrand of resilient material 5 having secured at one end a handle 6, the other end of the strand of material being flattened, as indicated by the numeral 7.
The figure 3 comprises a body 8, said body including sides 9, said sides'being held in spaced relation by a spacing block 10 so arranged as to provide the top and bottom of the body and within the same with recesses 13 and 14:. The head of the figure, designated by the numeral 15, has a neck positioned within the recess 13 and .pivotally secured therein by means of a pivot pin 16 passing through the sides 9, the neck and the recess through the sides 9 below the spacing member 10 and has mounted thereon interiorly of the body the legs 22 of the figure, said legs being held in spaced relation or by means of a' sleeve 23 interposed between the legs and mounted upon the pivot pin 21. Each of the legs 22 is formed from sections 24 and 25, said sections being pivotally con nected at one end.
The spacing block 10 has opening out through one side edge a plurality of spaced slots 26, any one of which is adapted to receive and frictionally engage with the fiattened end 7 on the vibratory support 4, said slots being arranged in angular relation so that the body of the figure may be supported by the body at an angle with relation thereto.
When it is desired to cause the figure to dance by means of the platform 2, the handle on the vibratory support at is held in the right hand of the operator, and the fiattened end of said support positioned within one of the openings in the spacing block 10. The figure is now supported above the free end of the vibratory platform, and the vibratory support moved to a position which will cause the body and legs of the figure to assume a comical position. The platform 2 is now vibrated, which through its contact with the feet on the figure will cause the figure to dance, while the Vibratory support may be shaken, and in this manner the ludicrous antics of the figure increased. It will, of course, be understood that the figure can be movedtransversely and longitudinally of the end of the platform 2, by means of the vibratory support, and that by means of the openings in the member 10 the vibratory support may be' so arranged within the openings as to increase the ludicrous position of the figure when assuming a sitting or standlng posture.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing it will be seen that I have provided a toy which is simple in constructlon, highly amusing and inexpensive of manufacture.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a device of the class described, a vibratory support having a flattened end, a jointed figure having a body provided with sides, and a spacing member interposed between said sides and provided with a plurality' of angularly arranged slots adapted to frictionally engage with the flattened end of said vibratory support. I
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a figure having a head and jointed legs in spaced relation, of side members, a spacing member provided with openings arranged between the side members to provide recesses at the top and bottom thereof in which the head and legs may be pivoted, and a vibratory support removably en- 'gaged with the openings in the spacing member. I
In testimony whereof affix my s1gnature in presence of two wltnesses.
ROBERT BRUCE.
