TELEPHONEJVIOUTHPIECE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentedkl'uly 36,1??18.
Application filed June 13, 1917. Serial Flo. 174.535.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, l /innvis C. Freemanson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cameron, in the county of Barron and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Telephone- Mouthpieces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful in iproven'lents in. mouthpieccs and is applicable to telephones, speaking tubes and. any other sound transmitting devices to wh'eh it may be adapted; the primary ohject of the invention being to u'ovide a sanitary mouth piece of inexpensive construction which may be made from paper, fiber or any other readily destructible material in order that the mouth piece when once used can be destri'yed and thrown aside and a new sanitary mouth piece placed in position for the next user.
Another object of the invention to provide an improved form of holder for sup porting the mouth piece in operative position with respect to the telephone or other sound transmitting devices to which it is to be adapted.
The abo.e and other objects and advantages of this invention will he in part described and in part understood from the following description oi the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view oi? a telephone transmitter cone having my invention adapted.
Fig. 52 is a side clevational view, partly in section and,
Fig. is an end view of the holder.
In the drawings, l have shown the invention as applied to a telephone; the numeral 1 indicates a pedestal and 2 a. telephone transmitter pivotally connected thereto. The front plate of the transmitter 2 is provided with a central threaded. opening adapted to receive the hollow threaded stem 4 of a holder 5. The holder 5 consists of a hollow shell made slightly flaring toward its outer end and being preferably constructed of hard rubber. The outer flared end of the holder is made rectangular or square as shown in Fig. 3 and is provided with an interior groove 6 which extends along the inner surface of its side and bottom walls. This groove is positioned adjacent the extreme outer end of the holder and a portion of the upper wall of said holder is cut away to provide an entrance to the groove.
The sanitary. mouth piece as indicated at 7 is pre t'erahly made in the form of a hollow cone and may be constructed of paper, fiber or any other cheap and readily destruct-ible material. It preferable to have the mouth piece waxed in order to render the same moisture proof and to prevent dust from collecting thereon. As shown, the inner or smaller end of the conical mouth piece is divided by tour cqui-distant slits to provide the tongues R. These tongues are turned outwardly and are glued or otherwise secured to a 'iertorated disk 9. adjacent the marginal edges of the latter. The disk 9 is pietcrably formed of heavy waxed paper and serves as a reinforcing or stiffening m ans to prevent the mouth piece from collapsing.
In using" my device, the perforated disk 9 to whiehis attached the smaller end of the mouth piece '7 is inserted in the groove end of the holder 5 as shown to advantage in Fig. 2. After having been used once, the mouth piece may be readily removed from the holder and destroyed; or the person who has used the same may keep it for his own further private use. As the mouth piece is preferably made of waxed paper and is reinforced by the waxed disk 9 it will be appreciated that the same being practically impervious to moisture will not readily lose its shape and therefore if desired may be used an indefinite length of time by any one person.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact construction shown nor is its application limited to a telephone. I reserve the right to make such constructive changes as are desirable and necessary in order to adapt the invention for use with other sound transmitting devices providing of course that the changes come within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the in vontiou.
I claim:
1. In combination, a telephone mouth piece constructm-l of readily destructible ma- .terial and made in the form of a hollow cone, a perforated disk secured to the smaller end of said mouth piece, said disk being of greater vircumtcrence than the smaller end of the cone, and a holder for attaching the mouth piece to a telephone, said to thesmaller end of said cone shaped mouth piece, a holder for attaching the mouth piece to a sound transmitting device, said holder consisting of a hollow shell, a hollow threaded stem connected to one end of said shell, and the opposite end of said shell having a groove extending along certain of its walls to receive said disk.
3. The combination with a sound tra11smitting device having a central threaded opening, of a holder consisting of a hollow shell, a threaded stem formed on the inner end of said shell and engaged in said threaded opening, the outer end of said shell being rectangular and having a groove extending along the inner surface of certain of its Walls, a portion of one wall thereof being cut away to provide an entrance to said groove and a cone shaped mouth piece having a perforated disk attached to its smaller end and adapted to be received in said groove. v
4. As a new article of manufacture, a cone shaped mouth piece for telephone and other sound transmitting devices, constructed of flexible readily destructible material and having a perforated attaching disk secured to the smaller end thereof, said attaching disk providing a diaphragm for the smaller end. of the cone and being of such greater circumference that the periphery of the disk will"'-be' rcuinferentially spaced from the body of the cone.
As a' new article of manufacture, a
mouth piece for sound transmitting device constructed of flexible material *apable of being readily destroyed and made in the form of a cone, a rectangular perforated disk secured to the smaller end of the mouth piece, and a holder for receiving said disk and attaching the mouth piece to a sound transmitting device.
(3. As a new article of manufacture, a cone shaped mouth piece for sound transmitting device, constructed from flexible material and having its smaller end slit to provide a plurality of outwardly turned tongues, and a rectangular perforated disk adapted to be secured to said outwardly turned tongues.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
