Description

U. ADAMS.
SANITARY PROTECTOR FOB. TELEPHONE TRANSMITTERS.
' APPLICATION FILED MAB..14, 1911.

' WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS CHARLES ADAMS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13,1912.
Application filed March 14, 1911. Serial No. 614,299.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat 1, CHARLES ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Brooklyn Manor, \Voodhaven, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sanitary Protector for Telephone-Transmitters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved sanitary protector or shell for telephone transmitters arranged for convenient attachment to or removal from the telephone transmitter, the protector or shell when in use covering not only the mouthpiece but also the casing of the transmitters, so that disease germs are not liable to be deposited on the instrument by the exhalation of persons using the instrument, and the user is not liable to be infected by such disease germs exhaled by a prior user, the protector or shield being sufliciently cheap to permit of throwing it away; after being once used by a person.
For the purpose mentioned, the sanitary protector isformed of paper or other suitable material fashioned into a cup-shaped body, the bottomof which forms a diaphragm extending across the opening of the mouthpiece, and the sides of the body extending from the mouthpiece to the casing of the transmitter andonto which casin lindrical edge of the body fits and ience the latter practically incloses or covers not only the mouthpiece but also the casing of the transmitter.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding part-s in both views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the s'ani tary protector; and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the sanitary protector as applied to telephone transmitters.
The protector or shield is preferably made of thin paper, but other suitable sheet materials may be used, and the material selected is "fashioned into a cup-shaped body A having a bottom A and an outwardly-int-he cy clined side A terminating in a cylindrical. flange A The cup-shaped body A is so proportioned; and shaped that it can be readily placed in position on the telephone transmitter B, and when in use the bottom A extends across the opening of the mouthpiece B of the transmitter B and forms a diaphragm through which the sound waves readily pass to the diaphragm of the transmitter, and the conical side A of the body A reaches from the edge of the mouthpiece B to the front edge of the casing B of the transmitter, and the cylindrical flange A fits onto the peripheral face of the said casing, so that the mouthpiece is completely inclosed in the body A, and at the same time -the casing B of the transmitter is pro tected against contamination by disease 3 germs. It is understood that the protector or shield can be manufactured suflicient-ly cheap, to permit of throwing itaway after being once used, so that the possibility of" transferring disease germs is reduced to a minimum as the entire transmitter is prop- .erly protected against such germs and Is -not liable to be rendered foul.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to, secure by Let- 8 ters Patent: fl
As an article of manufacture, a sanitary protector for a telephone transmitter, consisting of a cup-shaped body formed of thin sheet material, the body having a bottom forming a diaphragm adapted to eX-' tend across the opening of the mouthpiece of the transmitter, the side of the body being inclined outwardly and of a length to reach from the edge of the mouthpiece to the front edge of the'casing of the transmitter, the said side terminating in a cylindrical flange adapted to fit snugly ont'oi the peripheral face of the casing of the transmitter. v
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES ADAMS.
