MILES W. SCOTT, OF ADAMSVILLE, ALABAMA.
DISH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 24, 1909.
Patented Feb. 8, 1910.
Serial No. 485,427.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILEs WV. Soon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adamsville, in the county of J efierson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dishes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bowls and embraces the construction of a bowl provided with novel means for partitioning the same into a number of compartments.
One of the objects of the invention is the construction of a bowl having a removable partition whereby the same may be readily divided into compartments or used without any partition.
With the above and other objects in view this invention embraces certain combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts clearly described in the following specification and in the accompanying drawin s, in which,
igure 1 is a perspective view of a bowl constructed according to my invention, having grooved walls for the reception of a four leaf compartment partition, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a bowl provided with a removable partition dividing the same into quarter compartments, Fig. 3 is an end elevation thereof, Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of a bowl having grooved walls and a bottom for the reception of a four leaf partition, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a bowl having grooved walls for the reception of a partition adapted to divide the same into two equal compartments, Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a four-leaf compartment partition, and Fig. 7 is a detail sectional view of a single partition.
Referring to the accompanying drawings in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 I have illustrated the parts composing a bowl formed of glass or other similar material, and having a body portion 1 formed with an outer rim 2 and with partition leaf receiving grooves 3, which are located on the inner face of the vertical walls of the bowl and extend at right angles to each other along the bottom thereof. A partition having four right angular leaves 5, and a ring or hand hold 6 is removably disposed in the bowl 1 so that the outer and bottom edges of the leaves 5 will be seated in the grooves 3 of said bowl, thereby forming a close connection therewith, so as to completely seal the different compartments, thus formed, from each other whereby liquid or fine powdered material may be disposed in each of the compartments without danger of escaping therefrom by passing across the bowl contactingO edges of the partition 4:. The outer and ottom edges of the partition leaves or wings and the walls of the grooves are preferably roughened or ground so that the partition will be held in rigid position on the bowl.
In Figs. 5 and 7 I have illustrated a bowl formed of metal or wood and having a single wall and bottom partition receiving groove 7 adapted to receive a partition 8 consisting of a single leaf or plate, and formed with rounded ends and a bottom for close contact with the walls of the bowl.
In both forms of the invention the partition member is formed with rounded outer ends and bottom edges and the bowl portion is formed with grooves adapted to snugly accommodate said rounded edges and bottom. When a four-leaf partltion is employed in connection with a bowl having two crossing grooves the bowl is divided into four compartments, each sealed from the rest, and when a single partition is employed the bowl is divided into two compartments, each sealed from the other; the wings or leaves may be set at any angle to each other so that the diiferent compartments will be of varying area, in which case the bowl grooves would be formed on a corresponding angle. By means of the ring 6 the partition may be readily removed and the bowl converted into a single compartment device.
Having described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In combination, a bowl having a continuous groove formed on the inner face of its side walls and on the bottom thereof said groove being roughened, a partition removably located in the bowl with the outer and bottom edges of said partition disposed within the groove, said outer and bottom edges of said partition formed with a roughened surface.
2. In combination, a bowl having a pluin the grooves of the bowl so as to effectively rality of continuous grooves formed on the seal each compartment from the other. 10 inner face of its side walls and its bottom In testimony whereof I affix my signature, portion, the walls of said grooves being in presence of two witnesses. roughened, and a multiple leaf partition dis- MILES W. SCOTT. posed in said bowl with the outer edges of itnesses: each leaf and the bottom portion of each leaf I R. J. VAN Horn, formed with a roughened surface disposed I OLLIE SooTT.
