CATAMENIAL DEVICE.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
Application led September 2, 1913. Serial No. 787,564.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN JonGnNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for collecting and containing catamenial discharges and for uterine support.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a The container A is made of a thin, light metal, not corrosive, or attacked by the fluids of the body. I have found that aluminum is well adapted for this purpose, as it combines all the necessary qualities. The body A is made cylindrical and of the same diameter throughout its entire length. The base 2 is made hemispherical and in smooth continuation with the body A.- The upper portion -3 fits the body A in smooth cylindrical continuation thereof, and has an interior holding flange 4 which slides smoothly into the part A, and with suiiicient friction to insure the 'parts remaining together. The part 3 has its upper end turned inwardly in a reverse curve forming an internally convergent cone 5, with an ofpem'ng 6 in the center, for the reception o any discharges which will be retained in the lower part A, and may be emptied and the device cleaned from time to time by taking it out and re- 1= I am aware that devices for this purpose have been made of flexible or hard rubber and other impervious material, with and without discharge valves, but of such irregular exterior shapes that they either do not retain their position, or are .injurious to the wearer.
ln my device the even cylindrical form provides a smooth frictional, metallic contact with the walls of the vagina, which experience has shown retains the instrument with a positive grip and with no inconvenience, the inturned centrally perforated conical cap forming a firm support for the uterus and a receptacle for the discharge.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A catamenial device consisting of a metal cylindrical shell of uniform diameter throughout having a hemispherical closed end, and a metal top having a body portion of the same diameter as said shell and having one en d offset inwardly and engaged in the opposite end of the shell, the other end of said top being bent inwardly to extend within the top interior and being of conical A formation and having a central opening, said shell and top providing a smooth uninterrupted metallic surface throughout the periphery of the entire device.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN J ORGENSON.
