TUMBLER-CASE.

Be it known that I?, EVELYN LEE CoN- i vease, a citizen of the United States, and a i resident of N ewton,'in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Tumbler-Cases, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a j specification, like letters on the drawing representing like parts. l

This invention relates to a case for earrying a series of tumblers, and, While useful for many purposes, is particularly designed for use in traveling and in such cases it is desirable an essential that the tumblers shall be so packed as not to be broken by the jarring andrough usage to which they are subjectedythat the tumblers shall be kept clean and uneXposed to handling, that a ready means shall beaorded of carrying the tumblers after they are soiled and without cleaning without injury to the case, and also that the case shall be adapted to hold the remaining tumblers properly if one or more be broken.

The invention provides a neat and ornamental case presenting a pleasing.,r appearance to the eye, and compact in form. The ease'is j'novided-with an'absorbent cushioningr lining, and with cushioning pads at either end. and each tumbler is provided with an absorbent cushioning;` wrapper, all

The case is made in two parts adjustably connected together, and means are provided for varying the position of the parts so that within i reasonable limits any desired number of tuml blers may be held in the case, and when the ease is in closed position the tumblers are held firmly against cushioning pads at the l end so that no vibration is possible. The nature of the invention will more fully appear .from the accompanying description and drawings and will be particul larly pointed out in the claims. l The drawings illustrate the ypreferred form of the device embodying the invention.

vided with a loosev disk-shaped bottom A3 adapted to rest on the circumferential Hangc A2 and a cylindrical cap B.

The lower portion of the cap B and the upper portion of the body 'A are screwthreaded. the latter Ifor a considerable portion of its length, and the parts are held together by the cap B being' screwed down upon the body A. It will be obvious that owing to the length of the screw-threaded portion of the body A the distance between the top of the cap and the bottom of the body portion may be adjusted.- A screwthreaded band C is fitted upon the screwthreads of the body portion A and by screwing the band up or down the downward movement of the cap upon the body may be determined. l

The case at each end of its interior is provided with a cushioning pad D, of any suitable material, snch for example as tissue paper, which may` be readily sively replaced. The interior cylindrical wall of the body portion is provided with an absorbent removable lining E which may be of any suitable material, such for example as blotting paper, which can be readily and inexpensively replaced. The loose disk-shaped bott-om A3 is made of such diameter as to be movable freely inwardly within said lining E. The tumblers designed for use in this case are of a frusto-conical shape, such -as the ordinary champagne tumbler, so that they are adapted to nest, and one of the tumblers is illustrated at F in F ig'. 3. Each of the tumblers is provided with an absorbent cushioning removable zonal wrapper of any suitable material. such for example as blotting paper. As herein illust-rated the blotting paper is wrapped about the tumbler and held in place by an ordinary paper fastener, but the wrapper may be fastened 4in any suitable manner. This wrapper serves to keep thc tumblers a part and prevent breaking.

The lining, cushioning' pads, and wrappers prevent the contact of the tumblers with the case, and hence when the tulnblers are soiled they may be packed in the ease and after the tumblers are removed and cleaned fresh lining, padsland wrappers may be readily and inexpensively provided.

The band C will be adjusted to such sition that when the cap B is screwed upon the body A the nest of tumblers will be. held firmly by thc pads D at each end. If a. tumbler should be broken the band C will a podown cylindrical cap, means for fastening said cap be adjusted to a lower position so that the lesser number ot tumblers may be held in the same firm manner. y

When the case is open the separate remove able disk bottom A3 enables the nest of tumblers to be pushed outwardly so that the lowermosttumbler may easily be seized, the ldisk A3 being moved up by the thumb or finger for that purpose.
