BOTTLE COVER l Filed April 17,- 194'2 Inventor BWM/YW Y i i j Patented Nov. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BOTTLE COVER.
Eloret L. Kirby, Woodruff, S. C.
Application April 17, 1942, Serial No. 439,434
2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in covers for bottles adapted to provide an insulated jacket to maintain the contents of the bottle in a cool condition while the contents of the bottle are being consumed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a a front elevational view with parts broken away and shown in section.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View, and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for purposes of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of hingedly connected longitudinally split cylindridal sections preferably constructed of light weight metal or other suitable rigid material, one edge of the sections being connected by hinged members 1, and the other edges of the sections being connected by a conventional form of fastening device 8.
Secured to the inner walls of the sections 5 and 6, adjacent one end thereof, are a plurality of inwardly extending lugs 9 preferably constructed of cork or other suitable material, one edge of the lugs being cemented or otherwise suitably secured to the falls of the sections and the lugs project inwardly of the sections sufficiently to engage the sides of a bottle Ill to space the bottle from said walls and with the neck of the bottle projecting out through the` top of the holder formed by the two sections 5 and 6 when the same are in closed position, as shown to advantage in Figure 1 of the drawing.
The upper ends of the sections 5 and 6 adjacent the neck of the bottle are tapered, as shown at II, and the inner edges of the sections are provided with strips of cork I2 or other suitable material cemented to the inner surface of the tapered walls of the holder so as to snugly engage the neck of the bottle.
A bottom I3 is formed on the section 6 which completely closes the bottom of the holder when the sections are closed and a cork lug I4 is cemented to the bottom to support the bottle in an elevated position in the holder.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the sections 5 and 6 may be moved into open position by releasing the fasteners 8 so that the bottle may be placed therein, and when the sections are closed about the bottle the device will serve as a holder enabling the contents to be drunk without the hands of the persons coming into contact with the bottle.
The cork strips I2 at the reduced upper end of the holder spaces the bottle from the walls of the holder to utilize the air space therein as a means for insulating the interior of the holder and thus assist in maintaining the contents of the bottle in a cool condition.
It is believed that the details of construction, advantages and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A bottle holder of the class described comprising a pair of longitudinally split hingedly connected sections adapted for containing a bottle, a bottom on one section coextensive with theinternal diameter of the holder when the sections are closed, means for supporting the bottom of the bottle in the holder in spaced relation from the walls and bottom of the holder and with the neck of the bottle projecting upwardly above the top of the holder, and means carried by the holder at its upper portion for spacing the neck of the bottle in the holder.
2. A bottle holder of the class described comprising a pair of longitudinally split cylindrical sections hingedly connected along one edge, a bottom on one of the sections ooextensive with the internal diameter of the holder when the sections are closed, means for securing the other edges of the sections in closed position about a bottle, lugs secured to the inner walls of the sections at the bottom portions thereof and a lug secured to the bottom of the holder and adapted to support the bottom of a bottle in an elevated position in the holder, and spaced from the walls thereof, the upper edges of said sections being tapered to provide a reduced opening for receiving the neck of the bottle, Aand a packing strip secured to the inner walls of the tapered upper end of the sections for engaging the neck.
