  • ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Background the invention It is common knowledge that catsup is a problem to remove from the bottle in certain instances. Particularly, it is a time-consuming nuisance to attempt to get a small quantity of the semi-fluid susbtance out of the bottom area of the bottle.
  • Prior US. Patent 3,317,069 is believed to be a pioneer effort to alleviate the annoying problem of dispensing catsup at mealtime, and avoiding waste. It provides a cap which is also a stand, providing statbility in an inverted position. Such cap may be used as a conventional closure until the contents are low, and then the bottle inverted, or may be separately stored until needed.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Background the invention It is common knowledge that catsup is a problem to remove from the bottle in certain instances. Particularly, it is a time-consuming nuisance to attempt to get a small quantity of the semi-fluid susbtance out of the bottom area of the bottle.
Prior US. Patent 3,317,069 is believed to be a pioneer effort to alleviate the annoying problem of dispensing catsup at mealtime, and avoiding waste. It provides a cap which is also a stand, providing statbility in an inverted position. Such cap may be used as a conventional closure until the contents are low, and then the bottle inverted, or may be separately stored until needed.
This invention has for its object the provision of a convenient storage for such cap during the time the bottle is on sale, until needed after the contents are partilaly used.
Description of the drawings FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of the bottle and cap combination as provided by manufacturer;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged illustration, with the bottom portion in cross section; and
FIGURE 3 illustrates the inverted stand position.
Description of the preferred embodiment A catsup bottle 10, with a conventional threaded top opening 12, and cap 14, is provided at the base with an inverted well 16.
A cap 18, preferably of molded synthetic resin, commonly referred to as plastic, is formed with a bed wall 20, an exterior side wall 22, and a central cap wall 24. Cap

The cap wall has an exterior dimension to fit into the inverted well 16, and inner threads 26 with the inner configuration formed and dimensioned to fit the top 12 of the bottle as a closure cap having a grip fit. The cap wall and side wall both open in the same direction to provide a cap with an annular trough therearound to catch spillage.
By this construction the cap serves as a bottle base until the contents are partially used, and then as a cap and stand to hold the bottle in an inverted position.
This invention is the recognition of a small daily vexation, and a solution of what to do to provide a cap-stand with th catsup bottle to alleviate the vexation. It eliminates separate packaging. It is supplied to standard filling machines without alteration. The plastic provides a smooth base for the bottle, preventing the harsh clash of glass upon hard table surfaces, and actually protects against chipping and breakage.
The invention has been shown and described herein in what is conceived to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention which is, therefore, not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be afforded the full scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
What is claimed is: l
1. For a bottle having a base and a top opening, wherein said base has a central inverted well with an annular rim, the provision of a dual purpose cap, comprising:
a bed wall with an annular side wall defining a receiving cup for said bottle, said cup having a friction fit on said bottle for retention;
an annular cap wall centrally located on said bed wall concentric with said side wall, said cap wall having an exterior dimension to fit into said inverted well, and an internal configuration formed and dimensioned to fit said top opening with a closure and grip fit, said cap wall and side wall both opening in the same direction to provide a cap with an annular trough therearound to catch spillage, whereby, said cap serves as a bottle base until the contents are partially used, and then as a cap and stand to hold the bottle in an inverted position.
