Abstract

An insulating container cover to encompass a pop top beverage can to keep the contents of the can cool after removal from the refrigerator. The insulating cover is formed of flexible styrofoam plastic and has the same general cylindrical shape as the container it is to cover. The cover has an opening formed in the upper portion of its side wall and its top wall to give access to the drink opening in the beverage container so that the insulating cover can be left on the container while drinking the beverage therefrom. The cover is open at the bottom to permit it to be slipped easily over the beverage container and has a series of inwardly extending bosses for engaging under the bottom edge of the beverage container to secure the cover to the container. After the container has been emptied the cover is slipped off for reuse and the container is discarded in the usual fashion.

The insulating cover is formed of flexible styrofoam plastic and has the same general cylindrical shape as the container it is to cover. The cover has an opening formed in the upper portion of its side wall and its top wall to give access to the drink opening in the beverage container so that the insulating cover can be left on the container while drinking the beverage therefrom. The cover is open at the bottom to permit it to be slipped easily over the beverage container and has a series of inwardly extending bosses for engaging under the bottom edge of the beverage container to secure the cover to the container. After the container has been emptied the cover is slipped off for reuse and the container is discarded in the usual fashion.
3 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention The present invention relates to the provision of a stay cool container by covering it with an insulating jacket.
Summary of the Invention The present invention relates to a generally cylindrical cover having an open bottom and a closed top. The top and the upper edge of the side wall have an opening formed therein to permit access to the drink opening of a container positioned within the cover. A plurality of bosses are formed on the inner face of the side wall adjacent the open bottom thereof to engage under the lower edge of the beverage container to detachably secure the beverage container within the cover.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an insulating cover for beverage receptacles which can be easily removed and reused.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view, taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures, the reference numeral indicates generally, an insulating beverage container cover constructed in accordance with the invention.
The cover 10 is intended for use with generally cylindrical beverage containers 11 of the type having a circular bottom 12 and a circular top 13. The beverage container 11 is of the type having a pop top 14 to form an opening to permit the user to drink the beverage therethrough.
The cover 10 includes a generally cylindrical side wall 15 having a generally circular top wall 16 integrally formed thereon.
An arch shaped access opening 17 is formed in the top wall 16 by a pair of intersecting curved edges 18,
19. The opening 17 connects with an opening 20 formed in the upper top edge of the side wall 15.
A plurality of bosses 21 are integrally formed on the inner face of the cylindrical side wall 15 spaced up wardly from but adjacent to the lower edge 22 of the side wall 15. i
The cover 10 may be made of any flexible insulating material and I have found styrofoam plastic to be particularly advantageous.
In the use and operation of the invention the container 11 is removed from its cooler such as a refrigerator and the cover 10 is pressed downwardly thereover until the bottom edge 12 of the container 11 is slightly above the bosses 21 so that the container 11 is held in the cover 10 to prevent its accidental dislodgment therefrom. When it is desired to drink the beverage from the container 11 the pop top 14 is opened and the container 11 is positioned so that the opening therein is aligned with the opening 17 in the top wall 16 to permit the user of the invention to drink the contents of the container 11 while keeping the insulating cover 10 in place thereon.
After the container 11 has been emptied the cover 10 is forceably slid off of the container 11 and may be reused on another container as desired.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. An insulating cover for beverage containers of the type having a generally cylindrical side wall, a circular bottom wall, a circular top wall, and an opening in the top wall to give access to the beverage, comprising a cover formed of a flexible insulating material and having a generally cylindrical side wall open at the bottom, a top wall integrally formed on the upper end of said side wall and having an opening therein to give access to the opening in the top wall of said container, and a plurality of bosses integrally formed on the inner surface of said side wall adjacent the open bottom thereof for engaging under the lower edge of said container for retaining said cover on said container.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said flexible insulating material is Styrofoam.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the opening in said top wall of said cover extends downwardly into said side wall of said cover.

Claims (3)

1. An insulating cover for beverage containers of the type having a generally cylindrical side wall, a circular bottom wall, a circular top wall, and an opening in the top wall to give access to the beverage, comprising a cover formed of a flexible insulating material and having a generally cylindrical side wall open at the bottom, a top wall integrally formed on the upper end of said side wall and having an opening therein to give access to the opening in the top wall of said container, and a plurality of bosses integrally formed on the inner surface of said side wall adjacent the open bottom thereof for engaging under the lower edge of said container for retaining said cover on said container.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said flexible insulating material is styrofoam.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the opening in said top wall of said cover extends downwardly into said side wall of said cover.
