Abstract

1,164,969. Ballasted container; container closures. L. MELIGA. 13 June, 1968 [4 Oct., 1967], No. 28274/68. Headings B8D and B8T. A container, particularly for foodstuffs and intended to be used as a toy after emptying, comprises a hollow body 1 having an open end provided with a detachable cover 5 and a closed end 8 formed with a rounded, preferably hemispherical, outer surface 9 and incorporating a ballast weight 10 to maintain the container in, or return it to, an upright position when it is placed empty on a horizontal surface 11. In the embodiment described, a tubular portion 2 enclosing an internal space 3 is formed at its upper end with an outwardly projecting ridge 4 snap-engageable with a cover 5 having a resilient rim 6. An integral gripping portion 7 in the form of a flat tongue projects from the cover. Figures may be shaped on the tubular portion, the cover, or the gripping portion. The container and cover may be moulded from plastics material.
