SUPPORTING DEVICE roe NURSING-BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jul e, 1918.
Application filed November 25, 1913. Serial No. 802,957.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that L'ARTI-IUR BARLOW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have made and invented certain new and Supporting Devices for Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a supporting device for nursing bottles, the object of the same being to provide an article of this kind or character which shall be simple and economical to manufacture, and which may therefore be sold at a comparatively low cost, which may be easily and readily attached to or detached from a chair, crib, or other article of furniture or support, and which may be instantly turned or adjusted to bring the bottle within or taken out of reach of the infant. lVith these and other ends in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combie nations of parts as will be hereafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a bottle supporting device constructed in accordance with my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View through the clamping device and taken on the line 22 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the clamping device on the line 8.3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the clamping plate.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken through the bottle clamping end of the support, the bottle being removed therefrom.
By reference to the'drawings it will be seen that the suporting device consistsof a main rod or bracket 6, twisted or bent in several directions, as illustrated at 7, and into one end of which telescopes an auxiliary arm 8, the latter being slitted or slotted as illustrated at 9 in order to impart thereto a spring tensionfor holding said arm 8 in any desired adjustment with relation to the main arm 6. On the outer end of this auxiliary arm 8 is formed, or has secured thereto, a bottle clamp 10, preferably made of spring metal and shaped to partially encircle the bottle 11, this construction and arrangement of parts permit ting the auxiliary arm 8 to be partially pulled out of the main arm 6 to thereby slightly lengthen the same, and also to permit of its being twisted or turned within said main arm 6 in order to allow of the bottle 11 being turned in either direction, that is, toward the right or the left, and either toward or away from the infant.
The opposite end of the main arm 6 is detachably secured to the arm 12 of the chair, crib, carriage, or other support, by means of a clamp, this clamp comprising a frame or yoke formed with the two arms 13, the free ends of which are provided with holes Or openings through which the main arm 6 passes. Between the arm 12 of the chair or other support and the main arm 6 of the bracket, is located a clamping plate 14, illustrated in perspective in Fig. 4, this clamping plate being slightly bent or curved to conformto the curvature of, and more accurately fit and bear on, the main arm.
6 with which it contacts as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, the edges of this plate being bent downwardly and serrated as illustrated at 15 in order to bite into the wood of the arm 12 and thereby more securely hold the device thereto. To the yoke of the clamp is secured a sleeve 16 internally threaded and through which passes the clamping screw 17, the free end of this screw impinging against the arm 12 of the chair or other support, as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, it being readily understood that when the clamping screw 17 is turned it will bear tightly against the arm 12, which in turn bears tightly against the clamping plate 14, and which in turn bears tightly against the main arm 6 passing through the openings in the free ends of the yoke. Furthermore, it will be understood that by loosening the clamping screw 17 the main arm 6 may be moved lengthwise through the ends of the yoke to any desired adjustment, and the main arm 6 turned on its axis, with the result of tilting the bottle into any position as may be desired, at the same time permitting the clamp, with its en aging arm 6, to be moved along into any position on the arm 12. In other words, by constructing and arranging the clamp as illustrated and above described, and also by the employment of the telescoping auxiliary arm 8, the bottle holding clamp 10 may be brought into any desired'p'osition with relation to the arm of the chair or other support as may be desired, that is, it may be moved to ward or away from the arm of the chair, and it may be raised or lowered and tilted by turning the main arm 6 on its axis, and the auxiliary arm within the main arm, and thereby permitting the bottle to be moved to any place or location with regard to the chair, crib, etc., and into any desired position.
' It will also be understood from the foregoing that the invention is exceedingly sim ple and economical in construction, and when nickel plated or otherwise ornamented, presents a very neat and pleasing appearance, and that the contained bottle may be easily and readily adjusted to any location and position by simply loosening the clamping screw 17 and turning the auxiliary arm 8 held by friction or spring tension in the very end of the main arm 6.
What I claim is:
1. A bottle supporting device of the character described comprising a bent main arm, and a telescopic auxiliary bottle clamping arm fitting in one end thereof, and a clamp, said clamp comprising a yoke, through the free ends of which passes said main arm, a clamping plate located and movablebetween the arms of said yoke, and a clamping screw passing through said yoke whereby to hold the several parts in their proper relative positions.
2. A bottle supporting device of the character described and consisting of a main arm having fitted in one end thereof an adjustable auxiliary bottle clamping arm, and a clamping device, the latter comprising a yoke the free ends of which are provided ith openings through which said main arm passes, a curved clamping plate located between the arms of said yoke and impinging against said main arm and edges thereof serrated for the purpose of securely holding the same in position on a chair or other support, and a clamping screw assing through said yoke and adapted to bear at its free end against the said chair or other support, substantially as described.
8. A bottle supporting device of the character described comprising a main arm, an auxiliary bottle clamp rotatably carried at one end thereof, and a clamp, said clamp having the bent comprising a yoke, through the free ends of which passes said main arm, a clamping plate located and movable between the arms of said yoke, and a clamping screw passing through said yoke whereby to hold the several parts in their proper relative positions.
4. A bottle supporting device of the character described, consisting of a main arm, an auxiliary bottle clamping arm rotatably carried at one end thereof, and a clamping device, said clamping device including a yoke, the free ends of which are provided with openings through which said main arm passes, a curved clamping plate located between the arms of said yoke and impinging against said main arm and having the bent edges thereof serrated for the purpose Ofsecurely holding the same in position on a chair or other support, and a clamping screw assing through said yoke and adapted to ear at its free end against the said chair or other support. 5. A clamp for a bottle supporting device comprising a yoke, the free ends of which are provided with openings for thepassage of a rod therethrough, a curved clamping plate located between the arms of said yoke and adapted to impinge against said rod and having the bent edges thereof serrated for the purpose of securely holding the same in position on a chair or other support, and a clamping screw passing through said yoke and adapted to hear at its free end against the said chair or other support. 7 j
6. A device of the character described eompri sing a main arm the upper portion of the free end of which bent portion is hol-v low; means for securing said main arm to a supporting structure; an auxiliary arm extending into the hollow free end of said bent portion, tatably and angularly adjustable within said free 'end;.and clamping spring fingers carried by said auxiliary arm. 7
