IMPROVEMENT IN CIGARS...

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,172, dated May 28, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEODORE W. KREITZ,

of the city of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars, of which the following is a specifica-tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

' Description of the Accompanying Drawing.

Figure l is a View of a cigar provided with Y the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of same, showing the manner of securing the thread C.

General Description.

A in the accompanying drawing represents a cigar of ordinary construction. B is the mouth end thereof. G is a piece of thread, which is placed upon the mouth end in such manner as to bind the Wrapper against the fllling. A common needle of proper dimensions is provided with the thread C, and at the proper distance from the end of the cigaris forced direct] y through it. The thread is drawn through the orifice, a portion of it being left on the side of the cigar Where the needle entered. The thread is then drawn through the cigar at a point midway between the orices made, as aforesaid. This serves to bind one portion of the surface of the mouth end. The thread is then again drawn through the orifice rstmade, and thence brought round the mouth end in a direction opposite to that mentioned in conconnection with tbe first perforation; thence through the second orifice, and finally knotted to the end of the thread remaining outside of the aperture rst made. Thus the mouth end of the cigar is provided with a binding of thread,

serving to hold the wrapper in position, to preserve the end of the cigar in shape, and at the same time allow it to be lighted and smoked by means of the orifices made by the needlel or other instrument in drawing the thread through the end B. The end B may be secured in like manner by passing the thread over the cone of the end B instead of around it, as above stated; Vor the thread may be passed both around the end B and over the cone, as preferred.

It is obvious that less than four orifices can be used, as it is only necessary to pass the thread through an orice in the mouth end of the cigar and then make it fast about or over such end.

What4 I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a new article vof manufacture, a cigar hav ing its mouth end B bound with thread, substantially as shown and described.
