HOLDER FOR MINERS LAMPS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, James M. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredonia, in the county of Caldwell and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Miners Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to lamp holders and more particularly to lamp holding devices for miners hats and the primary object of this invention is to provide an improved type of lamp holder which can be readily attached or detached from the miners hat and which is so formed as to take most of the weight of the lamp off of the vizor of the cap and distribute the same around the head of the wearer.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved lamp holding device for miners hats which includes a plate curved so as to conform to the curvature of a hat and an adjustable flexible band for extending around the head of the wearer to hold the device in position.

A further object of the invention is to provide a lamp holding device for a miners hat which is durable and efiicient in use, one that is simple and easy to construct and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable price.

lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a miners cap showing the improved holder attached thereto.

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate cor responding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved lamp holding device, which is adapted to be attached to the ordinary type of miners cap 2.

Specification of Letters Patent.

The lamp holding device 1 includes the body plate 3, which is preferably formed of a single piece of sheet metal, whichis curved transversely to conform to the curvature of the cap 2.. The body plate 3 consists of a centrally enlarged guard plate 4 and reduced rearwardly extending curved arms5, which are adapted to engage the sides of the crown 6 of the cap 2. The enlarged guard plate l is The lamp receiving base rests on the visor S of the cap 2 and is inclined downwardly to conform to the inclination of the visor. An ear 9 is formed integral with the central upper portion of the guard plate and is bent forwardly and downwardly as at 10 in spaced parallel relation with the guard plate and a resilient spring clip 11 is positioned between the ear 9 and the guard plate 1 and is secured in position therebetween by suitable rivets or any fastening element 12. The free ends of the resilient spring clip 11 are flared outwardly as at 13 so as to facilitate the entrance of a miners lamp therebetween.

The free ends of the spring arms 5 of the body plate are each provided with an open ing 1-1 and a flexible strap 15 is looped through the same. One of the straps 15 is provided with an adjusting buckle 16 while the other has formed therein a plurality of bent outwardly and downwardly as at 7 to form a lampreceiving base.

In operation of the improved lamp holder the same is positioned on the hat and the flexible straps 15 are adjusted to the base plate 7 By this arrangement the lamp is securely held in position and. the weight of the same is distributed throughout the entire area of the hat.

In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiments, is the most eflicient and practical;

What I claim as new is 1. A lamp holder for miners caps comprising a body plate including an outwardly bent lower portion for engaging a vizor of the cap, a central enlarged guard plate and rearwardly extending reduced spring arms, a resilient clip secured to the central en- 5 larged plate for detachably receiving a lamp,

and adjustable straps carried by the terminals of said arms, as and for the purpose specified.

A. lamp holder for miners caps comprising a body plate formed of a single sheet of sheet metal having the lower portion thereof reduced and bent outwardly, an ear formed on the upper edge of the plate and bent downwardly in spaced parallel relation to the body of the plate a resilient clip positioned between the ear and the body of the plate, means extending through the ear to hold the clip in position, and means for securing the plate to a cap.
