IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,122, dated May 21, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, IsAAo VANCE and CHAS. ROGERS, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bag-Holders; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, referencebein g had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a vertical central longitudinal section of my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are details of the same.
This invention has relation to hoppers designed for use in filling bags; and consists in the novel construction of the same and in the combination therewith of certain novel devices for securing the bag and hopper together while the former is being filled, all as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents a metallic hopper of an oval form, with its lower end contracted sufficiently to fit into the mouth of a bag. The edge of the mouth of said hopper is on an incline, which gives it a high back and enlarges the mouth, and thereby renders the work of filling the bag to which the hopis applied more convenient and less apt to cause waste than if said edge were on a horizontal plane. Attached to the sides of said hopper are the plates D, provided with the arms cl, extending outwardly and downwardly, and holding at their lower ends the L-shaped pivoted clips at. The feet or upwardly-bent parts of said clips fall toward the faces of the plate D. The arrangement of the clips gives them a tendency to drop down at their inner ends. Each clip is constructed with a tongue, 6, by means of which it is raised, and with a pair of ears, '6, serving as stops to prevent the clips from turning back too far.
The bag E is attached to the hopper by inserting the lower end of the latter into its mouth and turning the edges of the cloth over the flanges of the clips, as shown in Fig. 1. The Weight of the bag pulls down upon the clips and gives them the requisite degree of tension.
F designates a ring, by means of which the hopper may be hung on a hook or other means of support during service.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The L-shaped clips 61, pivoted to the arms (I and applied to a bag-hopper, A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
