UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. OOLBURN AND JOHN G. COLHURN, OF ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FUNNEL-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,578, dated October 26, 1886.
Application filed March 16,1886.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES S. OOLBURN and JOHN CALVIN COLBURN, both of Altoona, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Funnel-Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of our improvedfum nel-stand. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same taken through the linexw, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to provide stands to be placed upon the counters of groceries, to-receive and hold the funnels both when in use and when not in use.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the funnel-stand, as will be hereinafter fully described.
'A is a standard, upon the lower end of which are formed or to which are attached three legs, B, to give the said standard a firm support. The lower ends of the legs 13 can be perforated to receive screws for securing the said stand permanently to a counter, as indicatedin Fig. 1, and in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Upon the upper part of the standard A is placed a loosesleeve, 0, upon which are formed or to which are attached the inner ends of four (more or less) radial arms, D. To the outer ends of the radial arms D are attached or upon them are formed rings E, which may be made of different sizes,corresp0nding with the different sizes of the set of funnels to be used. To the adjacent sides of the rings E are attached or upon them are formed the ends of connecting-rods F,to hold the rings Ein proper relative positions, and which are curved in the arc of a circle having its center in the axis of Serial No. 195,484. (No model.)
the standard A. To the centers of the connecting-rods F are riveted or otherwise secured the upper ends of the braces G, which are curved downward and inward, and their lower ends are attached to or formed upon a sleeve, H, placed'loose upon the standard A. The sleeve H rests upon a sleeve or collar, I, placed upon the standard A, and secured in place adjustably by a set-screw, J, passing in through the side of the sleeve I and resting against the side of the standard A. \Vith this construction the frame (J D E F G H can be turned freely upon the standard A, to bring any desired funnel over the place where it is to be used, and the said frame can be adjusted higher or lower, as may be desired, by loosenening the set-screw J and moving the sleeve I up or down.
With this construction the funnel does not have to' be held while pouring the substance to be done up from the scale-pan through the said funnel into a paper bag or other package.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A funnel-stand constructed substantially as herein shown and described and consisting of the standard A, having legs B, the funnel-receiving rings E, the sleeves O H, placed upon the said standard, the radial rods D, the connecting-rods F, and the curved braces G, connecting the said rings with the standard and with each other, and the sleevel and setscrew J, placed upon the said standard and supporting the said sleeves and their attachments, as set forth.
JAMES s. OOLBURNI JOHN c. COLBURN.
