' f, aosnrri rnnmvxorrEnrorJnnsny CITY, NEW JERSEY. 1 I
To all whom it may concermn a 1 .IBe it known that I, J osn'rn PERLMUTTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson, State of New'Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement .in Cue-Tip Holders, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters in the drawings representing like parts.-
This invention relates to animprovement in one tip holders and has for its object to provide a simple device, by m'eans'of whicha cue tip may be readily and quickly at-' tached to or detached from the end of a billiard cue.
By the methodv commonly pursued heretofore, when a worn or damaged tip is removed, the end of the one has to be scraped or sand-papered and nicely trued to properly seat the new tip which is then attached by means of glue or cement, for which reason the one is rendered useless for varying periods, to allow the glue or cement to harden, but with the use of the socket device, illustrated herein, which is adapted to retain a specially made one tip, such as is shown and claimed in my application No. 189,263 for patent on an improvement in one tips filed concurrently herewith, one end of which is inserted'in the hitting end of a billiard cue, screw fashion, a tip may be attached in a minutes time, or a worn or damaged tip may be as quickly replaced, the device being readily operated by the fingers without the use of tools.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in art pointed out hereinafter.
n the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device, of the one tip and a portion of a billiard cue, with a longitudinal section of the hitting end thereof cut away to show the detail of the screw end of the tip holder.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the two main portions of the device, and an elevational view of the dowel pins and a one tip.
Fig. 3 is an elevational perspective view of one of the two main portions of the device,
showing the dowel pins, by means of which the two portions of the device are held in register with one another, the flanged and In the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 incurl-TIP HoLnsia.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'provided with a peg or dowel I Patented July 2, Applieation fileds eptember1,1917: Seria1No.189,264. 1x:
dicate thehead portions of the two main members of the device, identical in-shape form and size, each. describing. a .one-hal longitudmal section of a cyhnder, .12;1nd1-.
catesthe narrowed, elongated and threaded end portions, the combination of whichdpered and rounded at 11 tofacilitate insertion.
The head portion of one main member is in 3 and a similar dowel pin 4 15 provided in the screw portion adapted for register with and insertion in the walls or borings 5 and 6 of the other main member 1, whereby both main members, when in place, are brought into exact register with each other.
Now regarding the two main members as attached in register with each other, forming a unit, the head portions are recessed at the upper end, the opening describing an internal annular flange 8, the under surface of which 9 is parallel with the bottom of the opening 1 1 and the end 10, making a positive clutch formation, as applied to the device.
It will be noticed that the base of the head portion describes an annular recess 7 for better seating, securing and preventing the spreading of the open end of the billiard one 14:.
From the above description it will be readily seen that having inserted the base of a cue tip 15 in the recessed head 14 of one of the mam portions or halves of the device as Fig. 3, and placed the remaining half of the device in register and juxtaposition therewith, and having inserted both members as a unit, screw fashion, in the end of the one, until the base 7 engages the end of the one, as in Fig. 1, both members of the device are thereby held securely in place, the one tip, the cue tip holder, and the one forming integrally a single unit.
Having thus described my said improvement, I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent under this specification:
1. A one tip holder, comprising two semicylindrical separable members, integrally describing a cylinder, having a recess, with an internal annular flange at the opening thereof, in one end, and a circular recess for seating the end of the cuein the other end, ah d sef'ew in eah s foi' attaehihg to Qhard cues and the hke U cylindrical members, dowel means ifqr .re
