'SeriaiiNe $68,264. i fs To al? whom t may concern Be it known that', EDWARD l citizen of the United States, and a` resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Teeth-Cleaning Instruments, of which the following is a specification. V
My invention relates to improvements in teeth cleaning instruments and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character whichis highly efficient in use and capable of economical manufacture.
@ther objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts khereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the acconipanyingy drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, n
Fig. l is a side view of the instrument embodying the invention shown in position cf use, y
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. l, I
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a stem employed in the construction,
Fig. 4 is anenlarged view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 2,
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3 and Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing a slightly modified form of construction.
The form and construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive comprises `a metallic head 7 having a flaring socket 8 in one end thereof, there being a central boreJ 9 extending through the other end thereof and into the bottom of said socket. A rubber contact piece 10 is secured in the socket 8 as shown. This rubber contact piece 10 is preferably in substantially cup form flaring at A headed stem 12 is passed through the bores in said contact piece and head 7 as shown, thehead 13 of said stem being located in ythe bottom of the contact piece 10. Ears 14 are` struck up on stem 12 adjacent the end of head 7 to secure the stem in place and the head 13 is roughened by means of projections 15 or otherwise to enga e the contact piece 1() to prevent turning'. ythis arrangement a PATENTl l LGHOTT, af. j j
ris suchthat the tool maybe manufactured departing from the spirit of the invention.
renali-'CLEANING INSTRUMENT.
, simpleand effective cleaning instrument for dental uses is provided.y lThearrangement so cheaply that a dentistcan afford to'discard each ytool after use onlione patient, thus avoiding all danger of transferring inn fection.
modified form of construction il lustrated in Fig. 6 the contact piece l() is provided with a stem l0 and the walls of socket 8 are inwardly swaged or grooved as at 16 to engage tightly the stem 10. Otherwise the construction is identical with that already described. j
While I have illustrated and described the preferred` form of construction forearrying my invention into effect, this is capahr ble of variation and modication without- I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of theappended claims.
Having described my invention, what I rclaim as new and desire to secure by Let-V ters Patent is: Y n j 1. A device of the class described comprising a head having a socket at one end and a bore extending through the other end thereof and into the bottom of said socket; a contact piece substantially in cup form andy inserted in said socket there being a bore extending through the bottom ofksaid contact piece in alignment with the bore in said head; and a headed stem extending through the bores in said contact piece and head, the n head of said stem being positioned in the bottom of said contact piece, and the stem extending beyond said head and constituting a mountingfor said head, substantially as described. y
2. A device of the class described compris ing a head having a socket at one end and a bore extending through the other end 100 tact piece in alignment with the bore in 105- said head; and a headed stem extending j through the bores in said contact piece and f, y f
head, the head of said stem being positioned in the bottom of said contact piece, and the stem'extending beyond said headv and con- 110 the precisey details of construction set forth, f
. sttuting a mounting for said head, the head of seid stein being ionghened to engage said content piece, 'S'ibstntiti-1Iy"l `its "jdeforibed 3. A device of theclass'deseri'bed compris- 5 ing a head having a socket at one end and a bore extending through the other end thereof and into the bottom of said socket; a con tact piece substantially inc np forme-11d inserted in said socket there being a bore eX- '10 tending through the bottni'bf'said oontaot piece in ,alignement with the' bof@ in Seid 'h ld; e heeded stern extending thon'ghfthe bores' in Seid' conta-@fi "piece end" heads the of .sem @geweinthe bottom of seid Contact piece, and the stem 15 extending beyond said head and Constitut- "nlonntingor L'sidmheadfthe head of 'Said stenbei'ng :roughene'd't engage said Contact piece, and there being ears struck U- p i311 Said. $139113.' adjacent said head, Sub- 20 stentially es described.
