Application filed January 4, 1921.

Be it known that I, GEORGE CHICKEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lodi, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Toothbrush; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush adapted for more effective operation upon the teeth and more especially of a construction which will facilitate the simultaneous brushing of both the anterior and posterior surfaces of the teeth as a means of removing accumulations and maintaining a sanitary condition; and with this object in View the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 3 is a section taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
The brush head 10 with which is connected a handle 11 of the usual or any preferred form is bifurcated or forked at its forward end to provide supplementary brush head or tongues 12 and 13 of slightly curved or arcuate form thebody portions of the tongues being substantially parallel and the inner tongue forming a curved extension of the body portion of the head and being provided in common therewith with bristles 1 f. Also the facing surfaces of the tongues carry bristles 15 and 16 of which the terminals are almost, if not quite, in contact. the bristles being arranged in the planes of the tongues and projecting toward each other so that in the use thereof, the fork or bifurcation may be arranged to straddle the teeth to bring the bristles carried respectively thereby into contact with opposite surfaces of the teeth. In practice the bristles 16 may be formed as continuations of the bristles 14 which project in the opposite direction fromthe said tongue a-ndcombine with Specification of Letters Patent.

It will be seen that in practice that the brush provided with the feature indicated may be used endwise, that is with the handle depressed in operating upon the upper teeth, the brush being reciprocated longitudinally, and may be correspondingly used upon the lower teeth by reversing the position or ex tending the handle upward, so as to reach every crevice between the teeth for the removal of any foreign substances which may have become lodged therein.
The under surface of the brush head including the body portion thereof and the extension provided by the under surfaces of the tongues 12 and 13 is preferably of arcuate form with the bristles 14: slightly reduced in length toward the extremity of the tongue. The bristles carried by the facing sides or surfaces of the complemental tongues constituting the fork or bifurcation are necessarily short.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. A toothbrush comprising a handle diverging brush heads at one end thereof, and bristles extending from the adjacent faces of the brush heads and from the lower face of each of said brush heads.
2. In a toothbrush comprising a handle and abrush head, bristles each passing through the brush head and having the ends thereof projecting beyond surfaces of the brush head which are at an angle to each other, whereby the ends of each bristle will be disposed at an angle to each other.
3. A toothbrush comprising a handle, diverging brush heads at one end. thereof, and bristles each passing through one of the brush heads and having the ends thereof projecting beyond the adjacent surfaces and from the lower faces of said brush head,
whereby theends of each bristle will be disposed at an angle to each other.
