ST9 MMYM HAROLD C. ROOD, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
MANS GARTER.
Application led March 18, 1918.
7&0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HAROLD C. Roon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mens Garters, of which the following is a spec-ification. l
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in mens garters such as are designed to encircle the'leg and provided with depending means for engaging and supporting a hose.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive form of that class of garter employing a closed leg embracing webbing, and to design a garter that can be made up with very few trimmings and connected parts, so as to be durable and well serve to roperly support the hose. The inventionrbelongs to that particular type of garter which includes a relatively large elastic leg encircling band, the ends df which are united to. form a closed band and to which the tab for supporting the clasp is attached, and known to the trade as a slip on garter.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it beingunderstood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departure from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Similar characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several gures of the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, and upon which,
Figure 1 shows a front perspective view of my improved form of niens garter.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the front portion of the garter, minus the finishing strip, which is shown separately in Fig. 5.
Fig. 3 is a side edge viewof the clasp and its supporting tape, ready for attachment to the adjoining ends of the elastic webbing, as shown in Fig. 2.
"Fig, 4 is a central vertical sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 1, and

, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and stitched to the clasp supporting tape 7 by two parallel lines of stitching 8-8 and top and bottom cross stitching 9-9. This tape is thus attached to the inside of the leg encircling webbing for the purpose of carrying the clamping loop 10 and stud 12, which together engage the hose to be supported.
The clamp supporting ta e 7, as will be seen from Figs. 3 and l is ormed ofia single strip of material and is suitably folded and threaded through the base 11 of the stud 12, and the loop 10 is indicated, in a manner to support the same in their relative positions. In this connection it will be seen that the main stem of the tape extends down from the webbing and is returned through the base plate 11 of the button 12 and is disposed against the intermediate portion of the tape and then folded to form a loop 18 in which the wire loop 10 is held. The end 14 of the tape is disposed against the folded portion of the tape and the three thicknesses are stitched to the straight back portion by a row of stitching 15 as shown in Fig. 3. These parts of the garter including the assembled tape, button and loop are in practice assembled to form the unit shown in Fig. 3 and are then stitched to the ends of the webbing in the manner shown in Fig. 2. The covering strip 16 of the non-elastic material is suitably folded and laid across the adjoining ends of the encircling webbing and the attached end portion of the tape. This strip is secured by two parallel rows of stitches 17 that are placed along the two side edges of the strip, and a cross row of stitches 18 that is run along the top edge. The two depending ends of this covering strip are disposed downward slightly below the lower edge of the webbing and there stitched together by the row of stitches 19 that pass through the six thicknesses of material including the previously folded portions of the tape which had already been stitched together. This when completed, as will be noted, forms a neat appearing garter having no buckles and comprising but three pieces of fabric and two metal parts.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A mans garter of the class described, comprising a relatively wide leg band of elastic material, a depending supporting tape attached to one side of the adjoining end portions of said leg band and stitched to the two 'adjoining ends, the tape being eX- tended downward to support a button and having its lower portion looped to supporta clasp and stitched to its intermediate por-y tion, and a finishing strip covering the at tached end of the tape and stitched tol the end portions of the leg band, the lower end portions of the strip depending below the elastic being stitched to the tape.
2. A mans garter of the class described, comprising a relatively wide leg encircling member of elastic material, a depending claspsupporting tape coverizng one side of the adjoining end portions of said leg encircling member and stitched to the respective ends by rows of stitches running along the edge portion of the tape and crosswise of the two adjoining end portions of the leg band, the tape being extended downward to support a clasp and its end portion being stitched to its intermediate portion beneath the leg band, and a finishing strip covering the attached end of the tape and the end portions of the leg encircling members and stitched thereto by parallel rows of stitches, the lower end portions of the strip depending below the elastic being stitched to the loop of the tape.
Signed at Bridgeport in the county of Fairield and State of Connecticut this 13th day of March, A. D.,-1918.
