" 3mm (5 lid-Mom" NELLIE G. MOORE, OF VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA,
NETHERGARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1917.
Application filed February 26, 1915. Serial No. 10,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELLIE G. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Virginia, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nethergarments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to nether garments and more particularly to underbodies for children.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient underbody which is constructed entirely of one piece of material and includes the supporting or shoulder straps and the tabs for attachment of the garters, drawers, short underskirts and the like, and which may be conveniently I25nd readily applied to or removed from the ody.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment constructed in-such manner that outside of the hemming and a short side seam only two small operations of stitching are required to make the garment ready for wear, thus reducing the sewing operation to a minimum.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing,
which forms a part of this application, and in Wh1ch:
Figure 1 is a perspective View, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken transversely through the garment from the front to the rear.
In the specific embodiment of the invention as illustrated herein, I preferably construct the garment of a single piece of material which is cut to produce a body portion 1, arm holes 2, neck opening 3 and the upward extensions 4: which are united in pairs at their upper end as at 4 to form the shoulder straps while the side marginal edges of the piece being joined together by a row of stitching as indicated at 5 which produces a complete garment, which is provided with buttons or other similar devices for supporting the drawers, short underskirt or any other type of undergarment and these buttons are preferably arranged in a plurality of vertical series so as to provide for the adjustment of the under garments sup)ported upon the body.
- epending from and formed integrally with the body portion of the garment are a plurality of tabs 6, 7 and 8, the first ones of which are each disposed directly below each of the upward extensions 4: and are provided with buttons or other similar fastening devices 9 to receive garter straps 10. The tabs 7 and 8 are at the front, back and sides of the garment and are located intermediate the garters for supporting drawers or underskirts and have buttons thereon alined with the series heretofore mentioned.
While these garments are made practi cally of non-stretchable material they are made sufficiently commodious to permit of their ready application and removal and the arm holes are made large enough to permit insertion of the arms without strain upon the arment.
hat is claimed is A, nether garment having a body composed of a single piece of material formed into a tubular section by a single side seam and with integral. upward extensions at the front and back set well in from the side portions of the body, and united in pairs at their upper ends to form shoulder straps, four downward projections for S11 porting the garters, located one directly be ow each upward extension and depending tabs at the front, back and sides located intermediate the garter supports for supporting other garments.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELLIE C. MOORE.
