to which the clasp is attached and connected at their upper ends by a separate piece of webbing.

It is very desirable that the garter, as a whole, should be as light as possible; that there should be economy in the use of material, andlthat the leg-band should be strong and durable and such as to hold the tapes sufficientlyf wide apart in order to produce "the most desirable strain on the ends pt the leg-band and to properly support the clasp. It 'is'also esirable that the leg-band should not be mut lated or cut into in any such way as to ma its appearance or lessen its strength. t is furthermore desirable that metal part, should, as far as possible, be omitted in the construction of the garter. According to my invention, I provide a garter of the general class above mentioned and which embodies these desirable characteristics.

In the accompanying drawings I have shown several embodiments of myinvention.

Figure 1 is a perspective veiw of the garter with my improvements applied. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views, showing the manner of connecting the narrow tapes of the triangle to the wider tubular leg-band and tab. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modification, showing how the garter is constructed when two clasps are applied to the leg-band. Fig. 5 is a detail View inigperspective of the tubular fabric preferably employed in the construction of the leg-band and tab.

The leg-band A may be made of any suitable material. Itis preferably, though not connect with a companion fastening device a2 on atab C attached to the suspending device B. Both the leg-band A and the tab C are preferably made tubular, as shown, and the diagonal tape members b, b and cross tape b2 of the clasp-suspending device connect with the leg-band and tab in the manner shown.

It will be observed that the tape members b, b, b2 are relatively narrow when Compared with the leg-band and tab. This construction provides a light skeleton suspending means for the clasp I) which may be of any suitable construction. Furthermore,inasmuch as the suspending tape members are relatively narrow their upper ends may be inserted into the inner ends of the tubular leg-band and tab and said tape members can be better disposed diagonally relatively to the band and tab. It is not necessary to cut the tubular fabric at its sides or in fact at any point as the tape members are inserted into the open ends oi the tubes and may be stitched thereto. as indicated at w.

lVliile I have shown the part b, b as made of a continuous length of tape, which is preferable. they are in etfect two distinct parts of the clasp-suspending device 'and I have therefore referred to them as two tape members.

It' the tape members l), b were of the same width as the leg-band and tab they could not conveniently be given the inclination shown or properly secured to the tab and leg-band. It will be observed by reference to Fig. l, for instance, that the tape members b, b

have their outer edges inclined relatively to l the lower edge of the leg-band and thus can be effected without giving any angular cut to the inner or upper ends of the suspending tapes.

.The narrow cross tape b2 is preferably elastic and its ends also extend into the ends of the leg-band and tab. being fashioned thereto at the same time with the ends of the diagonal suspending tape members. rl`his cross tape, being elastic. serves to hold the leg-band on the leg with a yielding strain which does not produce anydiscomfort to the wearer.

In some garters of this class two clasps are applied to each garter, and I have shown in Fig. 4 how luy improvements ma y be embodied in such a garter. In this case the legband and triangular suspending devices are suspending devices B is attached permanently to one end of the leg-band and it is also permanently attached to a. connecting piece E, preferably of non-elastic tubular fabric, to which is also attached one upper end of the other suspending device B which also carries the tab C. The connecting piece E in this case really forms a section or part of the leg-band A garter made in this way-is much more comfortable than when cords are used to form the clasp-suspending device. It is also much more comfortable than where wide tapesV are employed for this purpose, and furthermore there is great economy in material, the narrow tapes being cheaper than cords or wide tapes and also providing :L way by which the strain between the legband and the clasp at the proper angle may be most efliciently transmitted.

I claim as my invention:

1. 'A garter comprising a tubular leg-band, a tubular tab, a clasp and a clasp-suspending device comprising a plurality of narrow tapes having two end portions inserted into the end of the leg band and secured lthereto by stitching and two end portions inserted into the end of the tab and secured thereto by stitching.

2. A garter comprising a tubular leg-band, a tubular tab, a clasp and a clasp-suspending device comprising narrow tape members converging toward the clasp and connected therewlth and which have their upper outer end portions on opposite sides of the clasp inserted into the ends of the leg-band and tab and stitched thereto.

3. A garter comprising a tubular leg-band, a tubular tab and a triangular clasp-suspending device comprising a. tape having its ends inserted into the ends of the leg-band and tab, and two narrow diagonally arranged tape members having their upper ends inserted into the ends of the tab and leg-band and secured thereto and which are attached at their lower ends to a clasp.

4. A garter, comprising a tubular legband, a tubular tab, and a triangular claspsuspending device, comprising a tape of elastic material ha ving its ends inserted into the ends all the leg-band and tab, and two narrow diagonally arranged tape members having their upper ends inserted into the ends of the tab and leg-band and secured thereto and which are attached at their lower ends to a clasp.
