Description

SAMUEL A. POOL.
Improvement in Door- Securers.
N0. 126,903. 7 Patente d" May 21,1872.
Witnessesfl I I'm/enter:
ATENT SAMUEL A. POOL, OF MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-SECURERS.'
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,903, dated May 21, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. PooL, of Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Door- Securers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a side view of the within-described doorsecurer when applied to the door. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same, showing the method of changing the length of bars E and D by the use of slot A, as designated in Figs. 2 and 3. Fig. 3 is a perspectiveview of the device, showing the different sections of 'the same.
Now, to enable others to construct and make use of the within-described door-securer, I will proceed to explain the nature of its construction, application, and the improvements therein.
Letter F, Fig. 3, is a flat bar with two curved points at the extreme end, as designated by letter G in Figs.1,.-2;3 E{j This bar F is placed between the door and its frame. By closing the door the pressure of the same, when tightly fitting, will press the points G into the door-frame; but as a great many doors do not fit tightly I have, in order not to increase the weight of the door-securer, applied a small cross-bar, as designated in Fig. 3 by letter B. This cross-bar moves in the straight slot, as designated by letter O in same figure; and in case the space between the door and its frame should be too large, so that the door would not produce pressure enough to press the points G into the frame, as heretofore de scribed, then the cross-bar B is brought in position between the door and the frame to fill the intervening space; but before applying the bar F between the door and frame the bar D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, is placed in parallel line with the bar F, its shoulder, as designated by letter H, resting close on the doorframe. After these bars F and D are brought into position the door is shut, and the bar E, as designated in Figs. 1, 2, 3, is likewise brought in parallel line with the bars F and D, its shoulder H resting against the door, by
which means it acts as a kind of bolt. In order to make the device applicable to any size of door I have applied athree-sided rect-' angular slot on bars D and E, as designated in Figs. 2 and 3 by letter A; this slot moves on a stationary pivot attached to bar F, andv designated by letter I in Figs. 2 and 3; and thus, by the means of slot A, bars E and D can be lengthened or shortened, as required.
Now, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The three-sided rectangular slot A for the purpose of lengthening or shortening the bars D and E, thus making the within-described door-securcr applicable to any size of door.
2. In combination with the elements of the above claim, the cross-bar B, for the purpose as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL A. POOL.
