Description

W. W. YO'KO M. -Door Spring.
(Model.)
Patented Nov. 23, 1880.
ATTORNEY INVENTO WITNESSES N.FETERS, PHOT WASHINGTON. D O.
ETE
VVILFOBD W. YOKOM, OF PARKERSBURG, IOWA.
DOOR-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,832, dated November 23, 1880.
Application filed September 29, 1880. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W.W.YOKOM, of Parkersburg, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Door-Springs; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure '1 of the drawings is a representation of the spring applied to the casing and door.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing the notched lug. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the complete device.
This invention relates to devices for keeping doors closed; and it consists in the de tails hereinafter specified.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a door hinged to the casing B. To this casing there is fastened a plate, 0, having the curved bearings c and the lug c, with notches 0 extending at right angles therefrom at the rear of the upper and lower bearings.
D represents asprin g having its ends hooked in one ot'the notches c, and then coiled around a rod, E, between the middle and the upper and lower bearings of plate 0, said rod resting in said bearings. By placing the ends of the spring in the notches the strength of the spring can be varied by changing the end from one notch to another. The middle of spring D is curved, and passes through a roller, F, bearing loosely against the door A. Between this roller F and the casing B the two members of spring D are coiled around the ends of a pin, Gr, passing through a second roller, '11. This latter construction is intended for heavy doors to stiffen the spring to render more resistance.
By the above construction a firm and efficient spring is made, one which can be adapted to any size of door and adjusted to various weights.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A spring for doors, consisting of the plate G, having the bearings c and notched lug 0, the rod E, springD, and rollers F and H.
2. Spring D, passing through roller F and coiled about pin G of roller H, in combination with rod E and plate 0.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
W. W. YOKOM.
