APPLICATION FILED nic. 29. IaIs.

INVENTOR A'yecfger ATTORNEY WITNESSES GEORGE JOHN HOEFLER, 0F STAPLETON, NEW YORK.
'WEEPING DOLL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 29, 1916. Serial No. 139,586.
To all whom it may concern.'
Befit known that I, GEoRGE J. Honrmn, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Weeping Dolls, of which the following is a speciicatlon. This invention relates to dolls.
The principalobject of the invention is to construct the doll capable of discharging' water in small quantities from apertures provided in the eyes, for the purpose of simulating tears, so as to give to the doll the appearance of a crying child.
Another object of the invention is to construct a doll of the 'above description in which the discharge of the water from the eyes may be controlled so that it may be caused to imitate the crying of a child at any desired time, it not being necessary to place the doll in any particular position for the accomplishment of this object.
A further object is to Iprovide a doll in which the reservoir, vwhen emptied, may be refilled to permit the continued use of the doll for the purpose for which it is intended.
With the above objects in view the invention Aconsists in the novel construction set forth in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a front view of a doll constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the appearance of the doll when in the act of weepin Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the upper tion of the doll 5 and Fig:i 3 is a sectional view through the head detac ed from the body.
Referring to the drawin doll comprises the usual bo sired form and head 11 may) be attached, the said head be- 1ng prefera ly formed separate from the body and secured thereto y any approved means. The head 11. is formed hollow for the purpose of providing a reservoir 12, capa le of holding the water to be discharged therefrom in a manner hereinafter described. The neck 13, which is connected to the head is provided with an opening 14, and this opening is closed by a stopper 15v of cork, rubber or other suitable material.
in detail the y 10 of any deconstruction, to which theD Carried by the stopper 15 isa tube 16 by means of which water may be introduced into the head. This tube is preferably made of rubber, one end of which extends slightly Within the reservoir 12 provided in the head, and its opposite end is provided with a stopper 17 to prevent the water from flowing backward through the tube. The eyes 18 of the doll are formed adjacent the nose with apertures 19 to permit the discharge ofthe water from the reservoir therethrough in small quantities, in a manner to imitate the weeping or crying of a child,
The Vwater is supplied to the reservoir by attaching a small syringe or bulb to the end of the tube 16, the stopper 17 having first been removed. When a sufficient quantity of water is within the reservoir, a pressure upon the tube 16 will cause the water within the reservoir to be agitated and forced through the apertures 19 in the eyes in small quantities, giving the appearance of crying as illustrated 1n Fig. l of the drawing. The doll ma be held in an upright position and the a ove effect produced as will be readily understood.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
1. A doll having a hollow head to provide a reservoir and having openings in the face and neck portions thereof, a closure for the opening in the neck portion, means for introduclng water into said head and means for causing water to be discharged through the said face openings.
2. A doll having a hollow head to provide a reservoir and having openings in the face and neck portion thereof, a closure for the opening in the neck portion and a tube ca rlieddby said closure and extending into sald ea i 3. A doll having a hollow head adapted to form a reservoir for the reception of water,.said head having openings therein and provided with an open neck portion, a closure for said neck portion, and a com'- pressible tube located within an opening formed in said closure and connecting with said reservoir, whereby to agitate the water in the reservoir and cause it to be discharged through the head openings.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE JOHN HGEFLER.
