WILLIAM FRANCIS HUNTER, OF BLAINE, KANSAS.
WIRE-FASTENER FOR POSTS.
Application filed July 3, 1916.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM F. HUNTER, a citizenV of the United States, residing at Blaine, in the county of Pottawatomie and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Fasteners for Posts; and I do hereby declare the f ollowing to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specilication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for holding wire to metallic fence posts and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature comprising a button, detachably held to the post and rovided with a slot for the reception of a ine wire which is held in place by means of a cotter pin.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in. which Figure l is a perspective view showing the application of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a post and wire holder.
Fig. 3 is a rear view, and
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a metallic post having an opening B therein for the reception of the button C. Said button has a circular outlined shank portion, designated by letter D, and is tapered to one end and provided with oppositely disposed wings F, the inner ends of which are grooved as at II, the bottom of the groove forming a part of the cylindrical outlined shank portion referred to.. Said opening in the post has angular outlined offsets, designated by letter B, adapted to receive the wings of the shank portion of the button, after Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1918.
Serial No. 107,407.
which the button is given a partial rotary movement to bring the wings at right angles to the line connecting the ofsets and serving as a means to hold the button in place upon the post. One end of the button is slotted as at N for the reception of a line wire O, and R designates a cotter pin which, after the wire is inserted in the slot in the button, is adapted to be passed through registering apertures T formed in the button and servin as means to hold the line wire in place in t e slot in the button.
By the provision of a device embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that a simple and etlicient mechanism is afforded whereby line wires may be easily and quickly attached to and detached from a metallic or other post.
What I claim to be new is A device for fastenin wires to metallic posts comprising, in com ination with a post having an oval-shaped slot formed in the wall thereof, a button provided with a tapering portion and having an oblong portion in cross section conforming to the shape of said oblong slot in the post, said button having a square-outlined head with a slot in the end thereof, the walls of said slot provided with registering apertures, a pin engaging said apertures, the inner ends of said tapering portion terminating in-oppositely disposed shoulders, the shank portion of the button intermediate said shoulders and the shoulders formed at the inner end of the head being cylindrical in outline and adapted to contact with the opposite edges of the post adjacent the oval-shaped slot when the button is turned.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM FRANCIS HUNTER.
