Description

VI RUlZ.
HoTEcToR Foa cuis.
ICATION FILED 0CT1619|7.
Patented Apr. 9,1918.'
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. a
VICENTE RUIZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CECILIO VELASCO, OF
RIOJA, SPAIN'.
PROTECTOR FOR CUES.
Application led October 16, 1917. Serial No. 196,875.
ToaZl whom it may concern:
B e it known that I, VICENTE RUIZ, a citizen fof the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York,`have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Protectors for Cues, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a sanitary protector for use upon a billiard cue.
An 'important object of the invention is to vprovide means of the above mentioned character, which may be manufactured so cheaply that after the same has been used by a single player -it may be removed and discarded, and a fresh or new protector placed upon the cue.
A 'further object of the invention is to l provide means of the above mentioned character, adapted to be held securely upon the cue without longitudinal slipping, and having its surface corrugated or roughened, for providing a convenient grip.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming `a part of this specification andin which like numerals are employed to designate* like parts through the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a billiard sue, yhaving my device applied thereto,
. Idig. 2 is a perspective view ofthe device, an 1 Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary .transverse section through the device.
In the drawings-wherein for thepurpos'e of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 deslgnates abilliard cue of any well known or preferred construction. 0 A longitudinally. and increases 1n diameter rearwardly, as shown. l
My sanltary protector is in the form of la` tube or'sleeve' 6 which is preferably formed' of paper, while other suitable rmaterial may be employed. This tube or lsleeve tapers lon'gitudinallgy [and increases in diameter rearwardly, o of the cue.
`As clearly shown inv Fig. 3, the tube 6 is provided with outwardly bulging portions or projections'7, which' are forced vor bent from the materialthereof.
VSpecification of Letters Patent.
This cue tapers4 r corresponding to the taperl Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
In the` use of the protector, the same is passed over the small end of the cue and moved rearwardly upon the enlarged rear end thereof, and securely clamped to the cue by proper longitudinal 'movement It will be found that the tubular protector or sleeve will not slip upon the cue. As shown in Fig. 1, the protector is arranged upon that portion of the cue which is permanently held in the hand of the player, and the hand is thereby prevented from contacting with the cue. The extensions or lugs 7 forma corrugated or roughened surface thereby keeping the hand from slipping uponthe protector. v I have found that the device may be advantageously formed of p paperor similar material and the same may be manufactured and sold at a small cost, such as a cent apiece. After each player has finished with the cue, the used protector is removed therefrom and a new or fresh protector placed thereon before the vcue is again used. It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and .described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may beresorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention` or .the scope of the sub joined claims. v
Having thus vdescribed my invention, ll
claim:` p
1. As anartlcle of manufacture,'a sanitary protector for cues, comprising a ta-f portions of'its material at spaced points forced outwardly 'for 'providing rejections which prevent slipping of' the lli) the sleeve.- .v
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
VICEN'II;l RUIZ.
