lit is generally known that those who are doing manual labor of various kinds, such as shop work.l factory work, lconstruction and building work, in carrying the popular brands 5 of cigarettes which are done up in packages, in their pockets while performing their work, experience considerable difiiculty in that the cigarettes become damp and moist, particularly where such work is being performed in warm climates or in a warm atmosphere, and in addition these packages being soft and pliable they become crushed, causing the cigarettes to crumble and burst. It is, therefore, an object of my invention to provide a light,ri gid and inexpensive case for holding such packages against moisture or crumbling from the causes heretofore stated. With the cases which it has been attempted to use heretofore, under such conditions and by such classes of workmen, it appears that after the case has been carried for a while, particularly by those working in warm climates or warm atmospheres, there develops, due to sweating, a disagreeable odor. rllhis objection or disadvantage li overcome by constructing my holder of aluminum.
llt is a further object of my invention to provide a light, efficient and inexpensive holder, constructed of aluminum, with the parts so formed that the paper package is tightly, but yieldingly held in place under a springlike pressure against accidental displacement of the package when the cover is removed.
llt is a further object to provide a two part cigarette package case so designed that `one part co-acts and grips the other at the various longitudinal corners thereof under a springlike pressure, so that the parts will not become displaced one with respect to the other, and at the same time, is so constructed as to readily permit inserting one section or part within the other.
'lf he above and other features of novelty, advantages and capabilities will become apparent from a detailed description of the' accompanying drawings, in which ll have illustrated a cigarette package holder embodying one form of my invention.
Cil
A lin the drawings, lF ig. 1 is a perspective view of a cigarette package holder, embody- 5w ing one form of my invention.l
Fig. 2 is a lsectional viewl of the holder, taken on the line 2-2 of F ig. 3.
FigfS is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, both the body section 10, and the cover section, 11, are constructed of light, comparatively thin aluminum sheets, each being substantially rectangular in cross section. rlhe side walls, to 12, of the body 10, are concavo-convex, in other words, bowed inwardly intermediate its longitudinal edges, to afford a yielding spring in order to grip and hold the package of cigarettes therein under a spring-like pres- @it sure, so that the package may not drop out when the cover is removed. 'llhe side walls,
13, of the cover, 11, are also concave-convex, so that the cover will gripv the body, 10, at its longitudinal corners under a spring-like "m pressure, and yieldingly hold the parts together' against accidental displacement. The. two sections, 10 and 11, are, near their transverse edges, bulged outwardly, for example as shown at 14 and 15, to afford a ready gripnib ping or grasping surface for the hands when pulling the two sections apart to. permit access to the interior thereof. rllhe ends, 16, of each section, that is, of the sections 10 and 11, are arranged at substantially right angles Se to the side walls and join such walls in substantially a right angle bend, so as to further accentuate the spring gripping action heretofore mentioned.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A cigarette holder comprising in combination a resilient body section open at one end only, and adapted to accommodate a package of cigarettes, the side walls being concave to yieldingly grip said package intermediate their vertical corners, and a resilient metal cover .section adapted to tit over and to grip said body section near the vertical corners thereof, said cover having a bulged out portion having transverse edges to aord a grasping surface when pulling said sections apart.
2. A cigarette holder comprising in combination a resilient body section open at one end only and adapted to accommodate a package of cigarettes, the side Walls being concave to yieldingly grip said package intermediate their vertical corners, and a ,metal cover section adapted to fit over and to yieldingly grip said body section near the vertical 10 In Witness whereof, I have hereunto sub- 15 scribed my name to this specification.
MICHAEL J. MANGAN.
