UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS GAMPOBASSO AND GERARD OAMPOBASSO, OF BARBIE, VERMONT.
mrrnn.
Application filed Apri 1 18, 1927. Serial No. 184,742.
tion to be hereinafter more fully described,-
illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the'appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional vie of a nipple with the invention applied-upon a bottle neck.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1. v
Figure :31 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 13-,3 of Figure 1.
7 Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corre sponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the conventional form of nipple as generally used upon nursing bottles. Said nipple is provided with grooved portions '11 and 12 upon the neck therefor to frictionally engage the flange formed upon the periphery of a nursing'bottle and the neck therefor.
The invention comprehends strips 13 car-' ried upon the inner side of the nipple neck and conforming to the confi uration of the surface thereof to effective yrengage the aforementioned shoulder and neck of the bottle. Said strips may be secured in any suitable manner or may be formed as an integral part of the nipple neck.'
The outer end of the strip is bent upon itself around the lower peripheral edge of the nipple neck to provide a pocket which will prevent displacement therefrom. It is to be noted from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that the strip will sufficiently space the inner side wall of the nipple neck from theshoulder portion and neck of a bottle'fto permit ingress of -air within the bottle to prevent the formation of a vacuum caused by suction upon the nipple. Such action and formation of a vacuum frequently results in the collapsing of the nipple. It, is generally known in the application of nipples upon'b'ottle necks that the peripheral edges thereof frequentl become torn and lose the necessary resi iency to rigidly retain the same upon the bottle neck. The invention is designed to overcome this difiiculty by strengthening the nipple neck at appropriate points where the peripheral edges of said neck are in the application thereof.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
.Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
An attachment for use upon nipples comprising a strip, said strip being adapted to conform to the configuration of the attaching portion of the nipple when applied and to slightly space the adjacent portion of the nipple from a bottleneck to relieve suction,
and the outer end of the stri being bent upon itselfflto receive the peripheral edges of the nipple and adapted to lie flush with the outer side thereof to provide a convenient gripping portion when applied and removing the nipple.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
THOMAS CAMPOBASSO. GERARD CAMPOBASSO.
