LOUIS WEIGEL, OF LODI, CALIFORNIA.
NECKTIE.
Application filed Gotober 12 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Lotus Wnrcnn, a citizen of the United tates, residing at Lodi, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California have invented new and useful Improvements in lleckties of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in neckties and especially with reference to the provision of a tie of improved construction which will slide easily in any collar and particularly in a twofold collar, the object of my invention being to provide a necktie which embodies a longitudinally arranged rib. one or more, on the inner side of the neck band, to bear against the collar and thereby reduce friction between the collar and the tie by preventing the tie from bear ing throughout the entire Width of its neck band against the collar, and hence enable the tie to slide easily and prevent the same from bending in the collar and thus greatly facilitate the adjustment and tying of the tie;
The invention consists in the provision of a longitudinally arranged rib on the inner side of the neck band of a tie, as hereinafter described and claimed. The invention further consists in the provision of a ribbon of suitable length and size which is sewed on the inner surface of the neck band of a tie and which is provided with longitudinally arranged ribs which are spaced apart and. which project from the inner surface of the tie as hereinafterdescribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is an elevation of the inner side of a necktie or scarf constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the tie in use and indicating the collar in dotted lines.
In accordance with my invention the tie 0r scarf 1, which may be made of any suitable material and which comprises the neck Specification of Letters Patent.
, 1917. Serial No. 136,217.
band 2 and the tying ends 3, is provided on the inner side of the neck band with a longitudinally arranged rib one or more, which rib is raised from the inner surface of the neck band of the tie and serves to bear directly against the collar and hence to space the neck band of the tie to a considerable extent from the collar so that friction is reduced and the tie is enabled to slide easily and hence can be readily adjusted and tied, without exerting or pulling forcibly on the tie and without straining or injuring the tie or disturbing or disarranging the set of she collar.
In practice I provide a ribbon 5 of sui able material and of suitable length and 'idth, which ribbon is sewed to the inner surface of the neck band of the tie and is arranged longitudinally thereof. The ribbon is provided with two of the ribs l which ribs are preferably woven into the ribbon, are spaced apart, are arranged parallel with each other and are somewhat elevated from the inside surface of the tie. These ribs form an air space between them and prevent the ribbon and the neck band of the tie from bearing against the collar, thus relieving pressure or friction between the neck band of the tie and the collar and enabling the tie to slide readily in the collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A necktie having a longitudinally arranged ribbon on the inner side of the neck and, the said ribbon being provided with a longitudinally arranged cylindrical rib which projects from the inner surface thereof and hence from the inner surface of the tie.
2. A necktie having a longitudinally arranged ribbon on the inner side of the neck band, the said ribbon being provided at the sides with a pair of longitudinally arranged cylindrical ribs projecting from the inner surface thereof and spaced apart.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
LOUIS WEIGEL.
